He had belonged to an elderly person who allowed him to run the household. In doing so, he picked up some bad habits. With our help he has developed some manners but will need to go to an experienced dachshund owner.<br/><br/>Luke came into rescue overweight. He has lost some weight, but he may need to lose another pound or two after he is adopted. He really is a sweet, happy boy. He loves to be outside and will do zoomies out in the yard in the morning. We do know that he does not like going to the vet to get his nails trimmed and a muzzle must be used. We also know that he doesn’t care for strangers. New people coming into the home would need to be made aware of this and not just walk in. Therefore, we think a quieter home would be best for him, one with few visitors. Taking Luke out for walks and to non-stressful environments, such as PetSmart, would be great for him.<br/><br/>If you are looking for a standard, then here is your chance. Please help Luke find his last forever home.<br/><br/>Our must haves for Luke:<br/> - a fenced in yard<br/> - a quieter home<br/> - can be an only dog or with another small, adult dog<br/> - only adult children 14 yrs plus<br/> - no apartments, high rises or condos<br/>============== Information for All Dogs/Adopters ==============<br/><br/>AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund’s back or get bitten.<br/><br/>If you have questions about this dog, please feel free to contact the foster home at the email address listed on the bio form. They have the most up-to-date information concerning the dog and would be happy to answer any questions about the animal. <br/><br/>There will be an additional $60 fee added for a required Health Certificate if traveling out of the state in which they are being fostered. <br/><br/>We will not adopt into CT, RI, NH, ME, or MA due to strict laws regarding importation of dogs into those states.
