LUKE's Story
Luke (A483043) is senior dog who had a home for almost his entire life and is now trying to make sense of why everything changed. Luke first entered Huntsville Animal Services as a tiny puppy in 2017. He was adopted quickly and spent the next several years in a loving home with two other dogs. For eight years he knew comfort, routine and stability. When his owners could no longer continue caring for him, Luke returned to the shelter and the transition has been incredibly hard on him. The noise, the nonstop barking and the constant activity were overwhelming. Luke struggled to settle at first and his confusion was hard to watch. With time he has begun to adjust, and the sweet, gentle dog underneath the stress is showing more each day. His calm nature and steady temperament shine through when he feels safe. Luke does well with other dogs. He generally prefers peaceful coexistence and simple companionship, but every once in a while he surprises everyone by breaking into a playful little romp. Those brief, joyful moments show that even though he is older, he still has a spark left. He is also carrying some extra weight at around ninety pounds, and he would benefit from adopters who can help him slowly return to a healthier size. Luke is a wonderful dog who deserves to spend his golden years in a home. He spent nearly his entire life as a family dog and should not have to age in a kennel. He is ready for stability again. Luke is estimated to be around 8 years old and weighs 90 pounds. All animals adopted from Huntsville Animal Services are microchipped, appropriately vaccinated, spayed/neutered and given a 30 day flea/tick preventative. Ready to meet Luke? Stop by 4950 Triana Blvd SW in Huntsville, Alabama. No appointment is necessary to meet our available animals. All adopters must be 19 years or older and be able to provide a valid ID.
