LUIGI**'s Story

Hello! I came to the shelter as a stray. The kind people that found me were able to give me a bath with no issues (I was a little stinky). They report that I am shy about cars and stairs, but they were able to pick me up and carry me with no issues (of course I'm a big dog so I was heavy). I'm friendly and I love playing and exploring. I was found with another dog and we got along well, but I'll definitely need slow, planned, monitored introductions to any other dogs in a new home. It is unknown how I might behave around cats. Visit this page for more information about properly introducing pets. Like many dogs in NC, I am currently heartworm positive, but don't worry - OCAS will cover the cost of my treatment. Staff members at the shelter can give you more information about that if you are interested in adopting me. In North Carolina, it's unfortunately common to see many dogs that are infected with heartworms (they are transmitted by mosquito bites). Heartworm disease may cause severe lung disease, heart failure, or other organ damage in dogs. It's usually fatal if left untreated. Heartworm treatment is costly. With your support, OCAS can help more dogs with this disease - resulting in healthier dogs that are even more likely to get adopted. Please consider donating to our GoFundMe campaign .
