Unfortunately, it wasn't the right environment for this sensitive girl. Her signals of discomfort weren't always recognized or respected, leaving her feeling overwhelmed and unsure of how to respond.

Lucy has shown resource guarding around high-value items and sometimes the people she's bonded with. She has also had a few teeth-to-skin incidents when people entered her space or approached someone she was attached to. Although she has not caused serious injury, these behaviors need to be taken seriously and managed thoughtfully.

Lucy communicates through body language and warning signals, and she needs people who will recognize those signals and give her space. Her reactions appear rooted in fear and insecurity, particularly when she feels overwhelmed.

The encouraging news? Lucy has shown us how well she can do in the right environment. During her behavioral evaluation, she settled quickly, accepted treats, responded well to training and became relaxed and social once she felt comfortable.

She's also a regular at doggy daycare, where she enjoys familiar canine friends, including her bestie Ethel! While she can be reactive toward unfamiliar dogs on leash, she's generally comfortable with other dogs in appropriate settings.

Lucy Life in the Dreamhouse

Lucy's ideal forever home offers:

A calm, predictable routine with limited visitors.

Experienced, patient adults who understand canine body language, resource guarding and fear-based behaviors.

Positive reinforcement training and time to build trust at her own pace.

Clear boundaries and respect for her need for personal space.

An adult-only home is strongly preferred, though respectful, dog-savvy older teens may be considered.

Lucy may enjoy living with a calm, socially appropriate dog after careful introductions, or she may do best as the only dog while she settles in.

Our behavior team will provide ongoing guidance, training resources and support to help Lucy and her new family succeed.

Lucy doesn't need a perfect home. She needs a home that understands her. With patience, consistency and a little room to breathe, this smart, affectionate girl has so much to offer.

And before long, you'll be saying, "Lucy, I'm home!" every day!

All dogs are up to date on vaccinations and spayed/neutered at the time of adoption. All dogs require professional training to become the best family member they can be.

To adopt or learn more about Lucy Lulu, you must fill out an adoption application. Their information is correct to the best of our abilities and the information we have been given as of the day of posting. From time to time we receive new information/photos of a dog and we do recreate their listing, which means their old listing link will no longer be valid. If you are considering a dog but don't apply right away please make sure to search for the dog by name if the link you have no longer works.

Please note, GDRNE does not guarantee the breed of any dog or puppy unless stated that we have run DNA. All breeds listed are educated estimates. Note that if the dog is listed as an "Out of town pet" there are NOT additional transport fees - it is included in our adoption fee Our dogs are rescued from various situations. It is most likely that both their parents were strays and even if not, mixes of some sort and that their grandparents were mixes as well. The dog may have some genetic material of an American Staffordshire Terrier (pit bull). The dogs are usually mixes of many breeds, making them a breed all their own - a True and adorable American MUTT. If you are interested in this dog, you must submit an application. Great Dog is not a shelter so there is no building you can visit. Our dogs live in private foster homes until adopted.
