Lucy's Story

Meet Lucy: 20 Pounds of Sweetness, Sass & Boss-Girl Energy

Lucy isn't looking for just any home. She's looking for her person — ideally a confident, experienced girl boss dog mom who understands that sometimes the sweetest dogs are also the ones who need someone else to take the lead.

Lucy is a 4-year-old Terrier mix who weighs about 20 pounds. She is spayed, vaccinated, microchipped, and ready to find her forever home.

Lucy is full of personality, deeply affectionate, and yes... a little bossy. She likes to be in charge around other dogs, which is why shell do best as the only dog in the home. She can do well around larger dogs, but Lucy doesn't need a canine roommate to be happy. What she really wants is a human of her own. And once Lucy trusts you? She is an absolute love.

Shell curl up next to you on the couch, burrow under the covers at bedtime, chase a ball with surprising enthusiasm, and happily head out for her daily walks. She walks beautifully on leash, is house trained and kennel trained, and doesn't require an intense exercise schedule. Two good walks a day would make her perfectly happy, although she's also capable of joining you for leashed hikes and weekend adventures. Her size and energy level make her a great fit for a condo, townhouse, or smaller home as long as she gets her walks, structure, and plenty of love.

Lucy's story is also why were being thoughtful about finding the right person for her.

She had a very difficult start to life in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, where she experienced abuse and still carries some facial scarring from her past. Some of Lucy's reactions can come from fear, not aggression or a desire to be difficult. She needs someone who has experience with dogs and understands how much consistency, boundaries, and patience can change a dog.

We talk a lot in rescue about the 3-3-3 Rule because dogs don't reveal their full personalities overnight. Lucy needs time to decompress, learn that she is safe, understand the rhythm of her new home, and realize that she no longer has to protect herself or control everything around her. Give her that time, and you'll begin to see the dog underneath all of those survival skills. To help make that transition easier, we also offer a Foster-to-Adopt Program, allowing approved adopters to spend 3 weeks to 3 months with Lucy before finalizing the adoption. It's a wonderful way to let her settle in, build trust, and ensure it's the perfect fit for everyone. She's funny. She's cuddly. She's smart. She's loyal. She's a little bossy. And she is incredibly deserving of someone who sees all of that and says, You can relax now. I've got this.

Lucy does not need someone to rescue her from who she is. She needs a strong, loving person who will give her structure, advocate for her, understand her history, and let this little boss girl finally enjoy being somebody's beloved dog.

If you're an experienced dog person looking for a deeply loyal little companion — and you don't mind sharing your blankets — Lucy may be your girl.

Call or text 619-919-6937 to find out more or schedule a meet-and-greet!
