Lucy's Story

Lucy goes through the world with her mouth open and her tongue hanging out, nosing along the grass like every inch of it needs checking. She is four months old and nothing has disappointed her yet.

She is a pale cream puppy with a pink nose, soft folded ears, white on her chest and feet, and a crumpled little forehead that makes her look like she is thinking hard about something. She came to Petersburg Animal Care and Control on August 26, 2026 with her littermate Linus.

Lucy is good with other dogs, and that is something we have seen here rather than something we are guessing at. She is comfortable around people, she is not fearful and not shy, and she is easy with her brother. She can also go home on her own. She does not have to be adopted with Linus.

Being honest about what we do not know: Lucy has not been around children or cats, so we have no way to tell you how she would do with either. She is a puppy, which means house training, chewing and basic manners are all still ahead of her. That work is the trade for getting to raise her yourself.

We prefer to schedule appointments for meet and greets to make sure someone is available to spend time with you. The shelter is open Monday through Friday, 12pm to 4pm, and appointments outside of those hours may be available based on volunteer availability. Petersburg Animal Care & Control's Adoption Policy
Thank you for your interest in adopting from Petersburg Animal Care & Control! We’re so glad you’re considering giving a shelter pet a loving home. We do not charge an adoption fee; however, all animals must be spayed or neutered prior to adoption, and the cost of the procedure is covered by the adopter. We’re happy to support adopters by coordinating appointments with our low-cost veterinary partners for spay/neuter services and other basic care needs. Adoption Process • We prefer to schedule appointments for meet-and-greets to ensure that staff or volunteers are available to spend adequate time helping you get to know the animal. • When you arrive, please sign in and wait to be escorted by a staff member or volunteer before entering the kennel areas. • For safety reasons, please do not reach into kennels or attempt to touch animals through barriers. If you’re interested in a particular pet, our team will bring them to a meet-and-greet area for proper introductions. • After your visit, you’re welcome to submit an adoption application. Applications must be approved before we can schedule a meet-and-greet with your family pets. • Meet-and-greets with personal pets are by appointment only, and for safety, two staff members must be present to handle all animals involved. We appreciate your patience and understanding as we work to make each match the best fit possible — both for our animals and their future families.
