Lucy's Story
Lucy / Female / 2 years / 36 lbs / Mixed Breed / Fostered in Owen Sound

Lucy has been waiting 3 months for her people to find her. She is quiet, gentle, whip-smart; the total package!

Lucy is trusted free roaming when left alone, and she's doing great with crate training too. Leave her alone for up to 4 hours and you'll come home to a calm, settled dog — no anxiety, no destruction, no drama. She naps quietly, follows you room to room, and even lets her stuffed animals have the bed while she curls up on the floor beside them

She already knows "wait," "sit/stay," and "leave it," and she's food-motivated, so training her is a joy. She's also wonderful in the car — calm, curious, and buckled safely into the back seat.

Lucy gets along beautifully with other dogs and has zero interest in chasing cats, squirrels, or rabbits. Zero resource guarding — you can take food, treats, or toys right out of her hands without a flicker of concern. Just a sweet, gentle soul.

Lucy missed out on socialization early in life, so the outside world still feels big and overwhelming to her at times. She can be nervous around new people, crowds, and busy or open spaces — but she warms up every time (especially with a treat!). If something overwhelms her on a walk, she hunkers down for a moment, takes a breath, and carries on tail-wagging with a little encouragement. She gets braver every single day, but she'll need a confident, patient family who can stay calm and steady for her while she keeps building that confidence — someone who won't be discouraged by a hesitant moment and will let her go at her own pace.

Because Lucy is still nervous in the outside world, she must NOT be off-leash unless in a securely fenced yard.

LUCY'S FAVOURITE THINGS
Earning special treats
"Smiling" while she plays with her stuffed toys
Couch cuddles + dog-video marathons
Rolling in the grass and finding the perfect stick
Splashing around in the water

LUCY'S IDEAL HOME
A confident, patient family who can help her feel safe in the outside world
A securely fenced backyard so she can run and play safely off-leash (required)
Another confident, friendly dog to help show her the ropes
Kids 12+
A quiet, low-traffic neighbourhood (required)

Lucy is currently on a low daily dose of trazodone and fluoxetine to help ease her anxiety while she builds confidence. With time and a stable home, she'll likely be able to come off it — but for now it's helping her become the brave, happy girl she's already showing us she can be.

If you are interested in adopting Lucy, please complete an adoption application on our website.
