Lucky's Story
Hello there! My name is Sir Lucky, Lucky Charms, Mr. Lucky or just Lucky for short. I am a 7 year old (estimated), poodle/maltese (also guessed) gentleman looking for my furever home. You clicked on my profile so how about you read all about me?!

I was found as a stray and taken to a local shelter. Nobody knows my past, my age, my breeds or what my name used to be. But that's OK! The people at NBS got me the most perfect foster home that I have loved getting to know them.

I am about 10 pounds of pure love my foster Mom says. I am happy, well-mannered, independent but very sociable. I came in with a very bad upper respiratory infection. It has taken more than a month for it to really improve. I am still coughing a little bit but I am done with antibiotics and finally kicking this cough now!

Here are things I love: car rides, walks, my people, being center of attention. You grab my leash and I am ready to go! I even learned that my foster Mom grabs this big bag thing with a handle that has her keys in it and everytime she grabs that I dance in circles hoping I can go with her! I love to snuggle and be pet. My favorite spots are on the inside flap of my ears and on my belly. I like to be held like a baby cradled in someones arms too. I could get pet all day! I like to lounge and am quite laid-back. I am not a barker or a whiner. I am also quite the gentleman taking treats very gently. I can be picky with my food, but I do have a discerning palette you see!

I do live with other dogs and LOVE my foster dog siblings but I can be cautious at first with other dogs, especially if they are much bigger than me. I may act like a little bully at first but once I realize they won't hurt me, I settle right in. I have not been around cats but my foster Mom thinks a cat in my new home may be just fine as I don't show any kind of prey drive and am pretty chill. I was not potty trained at all when I first came into the rescue. Now I am doing number twos outside exclusively. I am doing much better with number ones outside too. But I am a marker both inside and outside. Sometimes I wear a belly band when I cannot be watched constantly. I will also pee in a crate so someone who works away from the house everyday sadly is not my ideal match. So someone home more would be my ideal match who can watch me closely and make sure I am outside on a very consistent schedule.

I am a bit of an oddity when it comes to kids. I actually really like kids! I love my 7 year old foster brother human. He is so nice to me. But if he has friends over and they are all running around the house, it makes me uncomfortable and I try to jump and nip at them. For this reason, it is best that I have an experienced dog home or one with older kids. I can also be protective of my foster Mom. When she goes to bed, I follow her and hop up to join her. If someone comes into the room, I do charge them to let them know this is my space! I have not nipped anyone but it could happen. My foster Mom does correct me and puts me on the floor when that happens and I have been doing better with it. But my new family should know this about me and have the experience or situation that best suits me.

My friends at NBS Animal Rescue are helping me to find the perfect fur-ever home. All of the dogs in our rescue are have different personalities and needs within an adoptive home. Not all of my friends here at NBS Animal Rescue have the same requirements, so if I’m not be the perfect fit for your family- be sure to check out my other doggy friends too! For me?

These are the things I fur-sure need in my fur-ever home!
- Family who is gone no longer than 2-4 hour periods until potty trained
- Prefer an adult-only home
- Prefer 100% fenced in yard
- Family willing to continue the potty training

If you think I might be the perfect addition to your family please follow these steps:

1.) Visit www.nbsar.org to fill out my adoption application. As an approved adopter, my rescue friends can set up a home visit so I can meet you. Our rescue is 100% run by volunteers, to help your application be processed as quickly as possible, please make sure to….

2.) Call your veterinarian and give them permission to release information about your current and past pet’s veterinary history.

3.) Call your references too! Let them know to expect a phone call from an unknown phone number, and a rescue team member will need to talk to them on the phone as a reference.

My adoption fee is $300.00 and includes a DHPP vaccine, bordatella vaccine, de-worming, spay/neuter surgery, dental, rabies vaccine, heartworm test, heartworm preventative, flea/tick preventative, microchip insertion, bath, nail trim, ear cleaning, leash and collar and one week's worth of food. If you’d like to meet me, please apply online and to become an approved adopter!

Our adoption process requires that any pet in your household be current on vaccinations and heartworm preventative , spayed/neutered (unless a documented medical reason is on file with your veterinarian). Dogs must be current on Distemper DHPP combo vaccine and Rabies vaccine, cats must be current on Distemper and Rabies at the time of application. This also applies to any pets in your home within the past five years.

While I hope that you have fallen in love with me and are ready to apply, I understand if I might not be the perfect pup for your family just yet. However, would you please help by sharing my picture on Facebook, twitter or by email? I'm a great pup and need a loving family to give all of my love and puppy kisses to! Thank-you for your help!
