Lucky's Story
Breed: Yorkshire Terrier
Age: 1 yr.
Weight: 10 lbs.
Good with dogs: yes
Good with cats: unsure
Good with kids: unsure
Energy level: unsure
Good with men/strangers: yes
Hypoallergenic: no

Special home requirements or medical: needs another dog

Additional info:

Lucky was surrendered to us by an owner who could no longer care for him. He likely spent his whole young life outdoors and was matted, dirty, and flea ridden when we rescued him. As dogs do, he is quick to forgive and simply adores humans (though he seems to prefer women). He would also thrive in a home with another confident, kind dog that can show him the ropes of how to "dog". He is working on proper potty training, leash walking, and crate training.

It is clear that Lucky had a rough start in life before coming into our care, but despite everything, this sweet boy has so much love to give. He is a deeply gentle, sensitive guy who is a little shy at first and will submissively roll over to show you he's a good boy. Lucky absolutely adores women and will attach himself to your side like glue once he knows you're his person. He is still really wary of men, though, so he'll need a patient home that can give him all the time and space he needs to realize guys can be safe friends, too.

He's a funny little guy who is learning basic commands and how to play with toys, and while big city noises like sirens and planes don't phase him at all, he's still figuring out how the whole "being an indoor dog" thing works! Because the big outside world can feel a bit overwhelming, Lucky only goes potty where he feels 100% secure, which means he prefers going indoors on pee pads (or balcony/yard) right now rather than on his walks, and his fosters are currently working through some indoor marking with belly bands. When you take him out on the leash, he loves to stay right at your heels, and doesn't dart, because he just wants to be close to you!

His biggest hurdle is separation anxiety. He is currently being fostered without another dog, and we feel he would grow and thrive with another kind, confident dog in the home to show him the ropes and keep him company when his humans leave the house.

Lucky is a precious pup who just needs a warm, understanding, home where someone is around most of the day to show him he's safe. Watching him slowly let his guard down and realize he's out of harm's way has been really rewarding, so if you have the time and love to help Lucky blossom at his own pace, you are going to end up with the most loyal, devoted little shadow imaginable!

If you are not ready to adopt just yet and would like to help in other ways, please consider clicking on the green Sponsor Me button above to help this dog receive the best care we can give.
