Lucky's Story
**WE ARE ALWAYS IN NEED OF FOSTER HOMES** Homeward Bound Dog Rescue is an all volunteer rescue organization and all our dogs and puppies are in foster homes - we are not a shelter and do NOT have a facility where we house our dogs. For adoption information go to: www.homewardbounddogrescue.com. You must fill out an application online as we do NOT accept applications at our clinics.

You really need to read my complete story because with the name Lucky and my handsome good looks you will think I'm a catch, but I am not for everyone.

Hi my name is Lucky but I haven't felt very lucky for quite some time now. I'm 8 years old and about 30 pounds. I lived with my dad until he had to go into a facility, he couldn't take care of himself or me anymore. I went to live with some family members but they didn't keep me very long before I was taken to the animal shelter in Kentucky. At the shelter I seemed to be a friendly little guy, that's how I was able to come to rescue. After coming to rescue we found that I'm not a match for everyone. I like to do things on my terms only.

I'm a cute little guy and I was adopted quickly but that didn't last, either time. I'm a guy who is set in my ways. I like to be petted only when I want to be petted. I'm not into being petted right away, I need to know you for a while before I want your hands on me. I give the false impression that I like my belly rubbed because I roll over on my back but that is not the case. I came close to biting two people when they touched my belly. I didn't know them and I only rolled over because I felt like it, not so they would touch me.

I have great hearing and will alert you to any noise I hear. I will be quiet if you tell me to but then I grumble, like I'm talking under my breath about you. This can go on for several minutes. I will also talk to you. My talking and my grumbling are two very different sounds. I can keep a conversation going for a long time if you talk back to me.

I like to lay on the floor by Mom's chair but I don't jump up in it with her. My foster mom is ok but I like her adult daughter who comes to visit a few times a day so much better. I'm like a pup in love, I want to give her tons of kisses. She tolerates a couple but then tells me enough. I love to get my tongue in her ear and she hates it when I do that.

The shelter was told by my owner's family I wasn't good with other dogs, but here I am living with two. They keep to themselves and ignore me, so I just leave them alone. I don't know if I would like a companion dog. I saw cats at the groomer and I was not very friendly to them, so no cats for me.

Since I like things my way I need an adult-only home. Someone who is not looking for the ordinary dog but one who likes a dog with quirks and will let me live life on my terms. I can get along with any adult as long as they understand me. If they don't, well then I'm not the one for you and you definitely are not the one for me. Apparently I have lived this way my whole life. My dad and I were ok with that, so I need someone who will be like him. I am a great companion as long as you don't expect much from me, except to be around so you are not alone.

I don't mind being a homebody, that's probably how I lived before and I need a fenced in yard. It doesn't have to be huge but big enough for me to roam around and smell. I walk fine on a leash but that is not my preference. My second adopter loved to walk and he walked me until I felt like my legs were going to fall off. I was also reactive to other dogs while on our walks which is not unusual, lots of dogs are when they are on a leash. My mom seems to think all the walking and climbing 2 flights of stairs was just too much for my little body to handle.

My foster mom gave me a blanket since I came to her with nothing. I love that blanket, it gives me comfort. I sleep on it and will carry it around with me. I'm not a fan of Mom picking it up. That's my blanket now and I don't want to lose it like I lost everything else I had. I don't play with toys and I don't chew on bones, I just LOVE my blanket.

Mom and I have an understanding, she doesn't touch me unless I put my paws on her lap. She shows me her hand and tells me she is going to pet me. This took us weeks to get to this point. It will be the same with my new person too. I need time to decompress. I lost my whole world and all these changes I have gone through have been hard on me. Some dogs can't scuffle around from place to place without it affecting them and I am one of them.

I am housebroken, but mom lets me out a lot. She used to separate me from her dogs by putting me in the kitchen when she went out but she doesn't do that anymore since we are OK together. She did not try to crate me so we do not know how I would be, being made to be put in a crate so let's forget that whole idea right now.

I went to the groomer for a spa day, don't I look so handsome? The groomer said I did wonderful with my bath, my groom, boy did I need that haircut and even having my nails cut.

If you are looking for a pup just to hang around with you, that's the type of home I'm looking for. One where I can do things on my own terms. If I want to be petted I will come to you. If I need to go outside I will let you know. I don't want to be loved all over, I'm just not that kind of guy. I will be that companion for someone who likes someone else in the house so they don't feel all alone. If you think you can tolerate my personality, let's see if we can co-habitat together, so fill out that application and see how it all works out.
Our adoption clinics are held one Saturday a month at our facility in Schenectady on John Street, located directly behind Boulevard Bowl (Erie Boulevard) from 10 am to 12 pm (directions are on our website). We require an approved application before we consider anyone for an adoption - so filling out the application is your first step. Once your application has been reviewed, you will receive an email invitation to attend an adoption event. Different dogs and puppies go up for adoption EVERY WEEK so please feel free to visit the site and click on the Petfinder link for updates as we are adopting dogs out in between adoption events. Puppies and dogs up to 2 years old are $395. Dogs over 2 years old are $295. 100% of the adoption fees go to help us save more dogs.
