Lucia's Story

Hi, my name is Lucia! I'm a PURPLE pawprint, which means I will fit well into a home that meets some specific criteria. Here is what would work best for me in my new home:

-Personality: Playful, affectionate, gentle, independent, intelligent

-Can Live with Kids: Lucia lived with young kids ages 5-10 previously and would likely be fine doing so again. Recommending kids 6+ at this time. All kiddos in the household would need to meet at WHS to ensure everyone gets along.

-Can Live with Cats: Unknown history - slow and supervised introductions always recommended.

-Can Live with Dogs: Lucia would likely do fine living with another well socialized dog, and would really, really love to be adopted with her brother Zazie, although we are no longer requiring they be adopted as a pair.

-Can do Apartment Living: No thanks - Lucia needs a home with a larger area. A home with a fenced in yard would be preferred.

-Potty Trained: Yes

-Bite History: No

-Positive Reward Based Obedience Classes Required: No

-Energy Level: Medium

-Needs Medical Procedure Before Going Home: Nope, good to go!

Meet Lucia (also known as Lou or Lovie) - an intelligent and silly dog looking for her forever home, ideally with her bestie Zazie. It's obvious that they were very loved in their previous home and we're hoping that they'll find the same devotion in a home that can commit to them for life. Lucia is on the more independent side and would like to be given space until she's ready to come to you which doesn't take too long given you provide her with treats and lots of positive reassurance. According to her previous owner Lucia is incredibly smart and would love to be challenged with a variety of mentally enriching games and food puzzles daily. With a consistent routine and plenty of patience, we believe Lucia (and Zazie!) will make great companions for someone looking to bring double the love into their home. If you're interested in adopting one (or both! of these well-deserving pups, please fill out an application!

If you are interested in adopting, please fill out an application on our website (www.whatcomhumane.org/adopt) or in person at our facility. We recommend calling into the shelter after your application has been submitted so our front desk can give you next steps on our adoption process.
