Because of his background he has some different needs than your ordinary domestic dog. There's a video below of where he came from!<br/><br/>This is a list of the things he is NOT looking for –<br/>He is NOT going to be everyone’s best friend. He is very affectionate with people he trusts but doesn’t welcome contact from strangers. Once he develops trust he is very affectionate and loves to be hugged.<br/>He is NOT going to be reliable off leash. Because of this, he needs a large, fenced yard where he can run and stretch his long legs. He’s learned to play with sticks and, though he doesn’t actually retrieve, loves having his foster mom throw sticks for him.<br/>He does NOT want to play with every dog he meets. In his foster home he has his own pack he socializes with. He definitely prefers female doggy companions.<br/>He is NOT safe unsupervised around small animals. Like all feral animals he has a noticeable prey drive.<br/>He is NOT a dog that can be trained with harsh physical corrections or a loud voice. That will simply teach him that you can’t be trusted. His foster mom is a professional dog trainer and can show you how to communicate with him effectively.<br/><br/>Now for the things he is good with!<br/><br/>Lucas is crate trained, obedience trained, and has excellent leash manners in public. He has been extensively socialized by his foster mom and behaves well in normal social situations. He isn’t comfortable in noisy, crowded situations but loves going for walks in the neighborhood. <br/>He loves car rides and cuddling on the couch. He has a comfy dog bed in his crate which he loves. <br/>He would do best in an adult household or with kids who are teens and can understand his background and needs.<br/>Lucas has adjusted to many changes in the year that he’s been in this country. <br/><br/>Video of Lucas in Qatar - https://youtube.com/shorts/TaKx377vshI?feature=share<br/><br/>There’s been a lot of new experiences and he’s done well in adapting to his new home. BRBCR’s approval process includes phone interviews, reference checks, and a home visit prior to meeting a foster dog. Approved applicants must meet at the foster dog’s location. Blue Ridge Border Collie Rescue's Adoption Policy
BRBCR's adoption process requires that each of the following steps are successfully completed before meeting one of our foster dogs. The approval process typically takes 1 - 2 weeks. 1. Contact the foster parent of the dog that you are interested in to request an adoption application. 2. Fill out an adoption application on our website OR email a completed adoption application to brbcrdogs@gmail.com. 3. A BRBCR volunteer will conduct a phone interview with the applicant and the applicant's veterinarian and personal references. 4. A BRBCR volunteer will conduct a home visit with the applicant. Upon approval, the foster parent will set up a Meet and Greet for the applicant. If the Meet and Greet is successful, then the applicant will be able to take the BRBCR dog home for a 2-week trial period. If the trial period is successful, the adoption becomes official.
