Thank you.
------------------------------------------------------
Fostered in Toronto

Louie (a.k.a. Lou-Lou), is 6.5 years old and is a Miniature Pinscher mix. Lou-Lou came to me at a whooping 41lbs.; he is now down to 29lbs, but still needs a lot of work to keep up with his weight loss journey. Ideally, he should be between 13 and 15lbs. He is playful and loyal, making him a beloved companion. He would be great with a female dog companion although he would also be fine on his own. He is house-trained and will let you know if he needs to go out urgently by sitting by the door. This may be in between his walks. He is non-destructive and great in the house.

He loves walking and is happy to go for walks of up to an hour, three or four times a day. I have started slowly jogging with him for short periods, but he is not a fan of running so far. this may change as he loses more weight.

Be advised, he can slip out of virtually any harness, he will stop and back up out of it. So a double harness and a second leash on a collar is necessary.

Lou is getting better at being around people although he is still quite wary and cautious of men, but still has a long way to go as far as interacting with other dogs, especially on walks. I have been reward training him and he has been responding well. He has gotten used to the city with all it’s sites and noises but sometimes still will stop short if he hears something funny or someone is running by, etc.

He’s good walking in the winter but hates boots. I have managed to convince him to wear boots on his front paws but if I put them on all four of his feet he will refuse to walk. He’s good about letting you know if he needs his paw wiped, he will stop and lift his paw for you. You may want to carry a cloth to do this when walking in snowy or salty environments. He’s quite happy to be bundled up otherwise, and will wear sweaters, coats and hats if needed.

Lou is a loving, smart and loyal dog who would make a great companion. He is a very good guard dog and will alert anytime he hears something that sounds like it’s on the property, so is not well suited to apartment or condo living. He knows basic commands (come, sit, paw, etc.) He does the cutest little dance when you feed him.

Lou is on a special diet including supplements for his joints and would need to have this diet maintained upon adoption.

Like most pets, Lou does not like to be left alone. Lou would do great with an active family (older, dog savvy kids) or anyone who is active and will include him on their adventures. He needs someone who is going to exercise him regularly and continue him on his weight loss journey.

To adopt this dog go to: http://forms.gle/Ev16pQeQ2zAZWLig6

Rat Terrier Rescue Canada Adoption Fees
Puppies under 1 year - $775
Young adult 1 year - 5 years $650
Adults 6 years - 9 years $575
Seniors 10+ $325

The adoption fee includes spay/neuter .
*EXCLUDING UNALTERED PUPPIES UNDER A YEAR.

The adoption fee also includes, at a minimum, vaccinations, de-worming, I.D. tag and microchip insertion.
