Louie's Story

Here's another good looking boy in need of a home! This heartthrob 😍is Louie. He’s 2 ½ years old (not yet neutered) and in need of a new home where he can be king of the castle.

Louie was adopted by his owners in Colville (eastern Washington) about 9 months ago. Only a couple of months later his adopter had a severe heart attack and is having continuing, serious medical concerns. Since then, Louie's begun fighting with the other dog in the home, a neutered male bully breed who’s nonaggressive, to the point where they have to keep Louie separated now. With the unexpected medical issues of his owner's ongoing health caretaking needs, they just don’t have the time for Louie.

I haven’t met Louie in person, but am told that he’s a friendly boy, although not overly so – he will politely greet new people, then goes about his business - a typical Rottweiler. He loves going for car rides, and waits in the car patiently. He also loves going for walks and has good leash manners. He has been around cats outside and is fine. The cats are used to him being out there and they hang out together. We don’t have a lot of history on the home where he was before, but I was told that in his previous home he and another dog chased after a goat – so it’s best if Louie is in a home without exposure to livestock.

Louie does have some barrier aggression when dogs walk by his fenced yard, jumping up on the fence and barking and growling in a threatening manner. He is no longer left unattended in the yard, so he doesn’t get to continue to practice this negative behavior. When just hanging out he’s quiet, playful, and lounges around in the grass.

His owner says Louie is patient and waits for his time to play. He rarely barks and does not chew destructively, though he gets bones or tough chew toys to keep him occupied. He is gentle and easy going, just waiting for his chance to run and play. His current situation has him alone for hours at a time, yet he does not bark or destroy things. He gets so happy when it is his turn to get out and exercise. He LOVES playing catch, running and chasing balls.

Louie is in urgent need of a forever home – he sounds like a good boy who’s been shuffled around a little too much and would do well in a home with someone who’s willing to work with him to be the best dog he can be. Obedience training games, hiking, scent work, and other fun ways to spend time with his person would make him a happy boy. Rottweilers crave connection with their owners, and behavior issues tend to diminish when they have that connection with someone who actually “sees” them and work with them.

Apply to adopt this lovely boy: https://forms.spdrdogs.org/Adoption/

Washington State – no interstate transports. Idaho, Montana, Oregon, and B.C. adopters will be considered.
