Thank you.
------------------------------------------------------
Fostered in Toronto

Louie (a.k.a. Lou-Lou), is 6.5 years old and is a Miniature Pinscher mix. Lou-Lou came to me at a whooping 41lbs.; he is now down to 33lbs, but still needs a lot of work to keep up with his weight loss journey. Ideally, he should be between 13 and 15lbs. He is playful and loyal, making him a beloved companion. He would do best in a home where he is the only pet and his owner is home the majority of the time. Also, a home without children would be best, as he is quite possessive of his people and can be scrappy.

He is house-trained and will let you know if he needs to go out urgently by sitting by the door. This may be in between his walks.

He loves walking and is happy to go for walks of up to an hour, three or four times a day. He’s not ready to run yet as it would be too hard on his joints right now, but I’m sure as his weight loss continues, in the future this would be possible.

Be advised, he can slip out of virtually any harness, he will stop and back up out of it. So the two-leash option will be required for both of you.

Lou-Lou prefers the solo life both in and out of the home and is not interested in other dog companions or saying hello when out on walks. He can be aggressive and reactive so he needs an experienced owner who knows how to read him, is aware of his responses and knows how to be in control.

If walking in a crowd, he will often just stop cold if someone is trying to pass us. He is very wary of new people, especially men, and in general, takes a minute to warm up to new people and situations, but will adjust quickly.

He’s good walking in the winter but hates boots. I have managed to convince him to wear boots on his front paws but if I put them on all four of his feet he will refuse to walk. He’s good about letting you know if he needs his paw wiped, he will stop and lift his paw for you. You may want to carry a cloth to do this when walking in snowy or salty environments. He’s quite happy to be bundled up otherwise, and will wear sweaters, coats and hats if needed.

Lou is quite skittish at times and needs a lot of love and patience. But he’s also a loving and smart dog. He knows basic commands (come, sit, paw, etc.), .

Lou is on a special diet including supplements for his joints and would need to have this diet maintained upon adoption.

Lou would do great with either a retiree on their own, or a couple, providing they are very active and want to include him in most of their activities. He’s a happy little guy and enjoys nothing more than exploring with his companion.

To adopt this dog go to: http://forms.gle/Ev16pQeQ2zAZWLig6

Rat Terrier Rescue Canada Adoption Fees
Puppies under 1 year - $775
Young adult 1 year - 5 years $650
Adults 6 years - 9 years $575
Seniors 10+ $325

The adoption fee includes spay/neuter .
*EXCLUDING UNALTERED PUPPIES UNDER A YEAR.

The adoption fee also includes, at a minimum, vaccinations, de-worming, I.D. tag and microchip insertion.
