Lottie's Story

Meet Lottie: A Gentle Soul with a Playful Heart

Lottie’s eyes say it all—soft, expressive, and full of quiet wisdom. She radiates the kind of warmth that feels like home, a kindred spirit who’s easygoing, affectionate, and deeply attuned to her people.

Rescued just in time from a shelter in southern Illinois, Lottie came to MAPS after her previous guardian could no longer care for her. Since arriving in her foster home, she’s blossomed into one of the most loving companions in the house—a true homebody who thrives on closeness and calm.

Outdoors, Lottie delights in sunbathing, bird watching, and joyful sprints around the fenced yard. She’ll grab a toy and dash with it in playful bursts, occasionally dropping it mid-run and circling back with determination and charm. When she’s ready to rest, she hops onto the picnic table to soak in the breeze and reflect on the beauty around her.

Lottie enjoys her daily walks and is making steady progress with focus and leash manners. She responds well to gentle guidance, checks in often, and continues to improve with each outing.

But above all, Lottie lives for connection. Her signature greeting—a low, endearing howl paired with a full-body wiggle—captures her joy at being near her people. She’s a devoted cuddle-bug, happiest curled up beside you on the couch or nestled close while you read. Her love is quiet, steady, and deeply felt.

Lottie has met other dogs in controlled settings and shows playful interest, though she can be selective. She’s crate-trained and feels secure in her space, making transitions smooth and stress-free.

Getting to know Lottie has been a gift. She’s a soulful companion with a gentle heart, playful spirit, and unwavering loyalty. For someone seeking a true friend—one who listens with her eyes and loves with her whole being—Lottie may be the perfect match.

Application Process

MAPS’s adoption process is designed to help best place dogs with homes that are in the best interest of the dog and their human companions. The adoption process starts with a prescreen review of a Guardian Application. Making decisions about dog placement in adoptive homes is an "art", not a "science", and there will be times when applications will be denied for various reason(s). This is left to the discretion of the MAPS after reviewing relevant information. MAPS reserves the right to make all decisions regarding placement or final disposition of any rescued dog in its care into a foster or adoptive home. There is absolutely no guarantee, made or implied, that any person or persons requesting to adopt a dog being fostered through MAPS, or posted on MAP's web site, will be granted an adoption. After a successful prescreen, including background checks, the applicant(s) are notified that they can visit the dogs and a time slot is made for the dog and applicant interaction. After the interaction we encourage several days of reflection before adopting a pet to help assure this will be a lifetime commitment of love and quality care for the dog. Next we conduct a home/neighborhood visit to the Guardian Applicant's home. If the home visit proves successful the new mom and/or dad of the dog will sign an Adoption Agreement and share a lifetime of love and mindful growth !

Guardianship Application available for download at

http://tinyurl.com/MAPSFiles

MAPS Dog Rescue Mission

Midwest Area Pit Stop, Inc. (MAPS) is a foster home based rescue located in Madison, Wisconsin established in 2005 after being part of the Chicago Illinois based rescue Furry Friends for several years. MAPS focuses on providing a structured, safe calm environment for the dogs in their care that helps them flourish. This structured home environment is complimented by exercise, Positive Reinforcement Deference Training, very high quality dog food in addition to a broad spectrum of proven food supplements including vitamins and supplements. In addition to fostering, MAPS provides sponsorship funds to help with the veterinary expenses and/or Breed DNA testing to save dogs in need of a rescue at the end of their options. MAPS has been active in the community promoting dog safety, how to build a healthy relationship with your dog, and fighting breed discrimination including breed testing of hundreds of dogs since December 2007. MAPS believes that dogs are a central component for people to have a more meaningful and purposeful life. That is, if people are willing to embrace mindfulness in daily living. Dogs help us connect to reality and make life worth living through example and deep bonds. MAPS is not about how many dogs are adopted in the shortest amount of time but rather measures to help insure the dogs that are adopted do not come back for the wrong reasons.
