Loosey Goosey's Story

Loosey Goosey is a really darling little Miniature American/Australian Shepherd. She weighs in at just 22 pounds / 10 KG. She joined Mattie's Place, via a Canadians shelter, that had a going out of business breeder surrender her dogs.

The breeder stated she was 4 years old, so she has a given DOB: Nov 7, 2021

Loosey Goosey has some anxiety with the world around her as she's lived her life in a barn, but she is more of a flight than fight anxious dog and when she knows she's safe with you, she's a gem. Typical to the breed, she is shy meeting new people and that will likely remain.

She managed her vet appointment with ease and also went in for a professional groom and was a great customer! Though anxious, she handled it with grace.

Loosey Goosey will need an adopter that understands the patience required for a nervous dog that has been denied a lot of life skills.

Loosey Goosey crates beautifully, does amazing in a car, is good with other dogs and walks well on leash. She does have a lot of amazing qualities and just needs to continue building on them.

Though Loosey Goosey isn't showing much herding traits now and is generally low key in energy, her DNA suggests those personality traits are waiting to show themselves once she settles into life, so small children and cats will likely not be the best fit for her to live with. She'll also need an active adopter as these breeds tend to be higher energy. Can she live in a condo? Absolutely. But she'll want to adventure alongside you and not be left alone to be a couch potato, so you will have to provide sufficient exercise and mental stimulation to keep her happy and healthy.

And if you want to take up a new hobby with your canine friend, I bet she would excel in canine events; obedience, agility, dock diving and tracking.

Loosey Goosey will need daily grooming to keep her coat stunning and very likely a couple good professional grooms throughout the year, so be sure you have that budgeted into your pet ownership plan.

Loosey Goosey is deserving of the best home. She's 100% good dog through and through and just needs a home full of love and guidance to help her grow into the spectacular dog just waiting below the surface.

FROM THE FOSTER:

This gentle, affectionate pup likes to be close to her trusted people and will happily follow you from room to room, always staying just a few inches behind you. Ear scratches and couch cuddles are some of her absolute favorite things. She is very easy to physically handle, allowing her fosters to touch her paws and administer medication etc.

With new people, she takes her cues from her trusted humans, but once she decides someone is safe, she’s eager for affection and reassurance.

She has only practiced being alone for short periods and has shown signs of separation anxiety, including whining, howling, and barking. Having another dog nearby, being crated, and following separation-anxiety protocols has mitigated that behaviour. Her crate is the space in which she is most relaxed, and she will go to her crate when overwhelmed.

She is eager to go for walks and explore the world at her own pace. Right now, she has stamina for about 30–40 minutes and is still building strength. Despite her breed’s reputation for agility, she can be comically clumsy, and is still figuring out things like navigating stairs. This is probably just as well as she would counter surf if she could jump any higher.

She gets confidence from the resident dog in her foster home and looks to him for comfort and guidance. While she doesn’t quite know how to play yet, she’s curious about meeting other dogs out-and-about.

She's more relaxed with some entertainment in her day and enjoys simple food puzzles and looking out the window. She’s a smart, food-motivated girl who learns quickly—she picked up ā€œsitā€ in about 20 minutes. She can be a bit picky about treats, but when she likes something, she’ll work for it!

------------------------------------

ADOPTION FEE INCLUDES: spay/neuter, deworming, flea/tick prevention, vaccinations, dentals if needed or any added surgical needed surgical care, food, nose to tail health exam, toys, leash|collar, winter coat (seasonal), poop bags, dishes and 30 days of Trupanion pet insurance with immediate coverage on adoption day for any illness or injury not pre-existing.

----------------------------------------

To note: the above description is relevant to this dog in it's current & previous setting. Home changes & adopter personalities can bring out different behaviours not previously seen.
