Meet Loki

Loki was abandoned in a dog park in Houston, Tx. So many huskies are being euthanized in Texas shelters or killed on the roads. Too many people get a husky puppy because they’re beautiful or because they saw a movie.

Like most huskies, Loki is incredibly smart!  He learns very quickly, but like most huskies, he will use his “powers” of intelligence and high energy in favor of his own agenda if not actively managed, at this early age. The good news is that when his mind and body are engaged, he’s a joy to work with, and is also very food motivated. Small treats have him focused on what he needs to do to get the treat/reward.

Loki is currently in foster care in a townhome in urban Houston.

Every time Loki leaves the house, he is on a leash.  But he goes for many walks each day of various lengths with a minimum of two walks being 3 miles or more. He would thrive with a yard and/or athletic humans. Loki would be a fabulous jogging and running buddy with a little time investment to teach him run time vs sniff time.

He is high energy and has a classic Husky personality. He is very curious and interested in most any kind of activity, be it toys, walks, other dogs, training time, etc. Developmentally, he is still on the puppy side of maturity.

Rescue Texas is looking to find him a home that understands the breed and the challenges they present. We say challenge because young huskies love to challenge an inexperienced husky owner :)

Other dogs:
Loki is sharing a home with a mature 78lb female shepherd mix.  Loki (50lbs) tends to think she is his playmate. She puts up with him until she’s had enough and then she will put him in check…which he respects.
All indications are that he soooo wants to play with other dogs. He is NOT reactive or grumpy…ever!

Leash skills: Most of the time he walks with a loose leash using a gentle leader collar. When he gets overstimulated or extra bored, he will try to bite the leash with the idea to play tug.  His amazing foster is working on this!

Like most Huskies, he is very oral - play bites with the leash and when bored.  He sometimes has little temper tantrums over wearing the gentle leader collar and will grab the leash and shake his head and try to run.  Again, foster is working on this!

He is highly prey motivated, so I would say like most huskies, he’s probably not cat friendly.  Plus, at his age, he’s playing rough and tumble, so smalll children would likely be a challenge.

Loki is highly trainable and a typical young husky. If you’re looking for a couch potato, Loki is not your boy.

We are in Texas, but we love sending our rescue dogs to other US states! Travel with a USDA Health Certificate to most US cities is available for an additional $300 fee.

Our dogs over 6 months of age have been vaccinated, dewormed spay/neutered and microchipped! In rare circumstances, a dog may not be spayed/neutered for health reasons. In this case, it will be clearly explained to the adopters and proper care will be understood by adopters.

Many of our rescue dogs have high medical expenses. Our goal is to get as many homeless animals out of south Texas, where there is a severe pet overpopulation crisis.

Breed: We are an animal welfare organization and we do our best to estimate the breed based on our experience and research. We do not guarantee the breed and/or size expectation of the puppy in our Petfinder ads.
