Lokey's Story
*EUTHANIZED* 9/27/07

Lokey is 3 Yr old neutered male Korean Jindo currently located at the ASPCA in NYC; ID A024844. He was seized by ASPCA officers for a failure to treat an injured leg. His leg has been repaired and he will be ready for adoption once he’s fully recovered; most likely in 3 weeks from 8/23/2007. He is a very independent dog. He is aloof towards new people and would rather explore his environment than be pet. However, once he trusts new people and is comfortable with them, he loves to be pet and will even take treats very gently from your hand. He seems to warm up rather quickly to new people for a Jindo. He will sit on command and will walk well on a leash if he knows the human is in control. Lokey is a dominant dog and will need an owner prepared to deal with a dominant dog. Lokey would enjoy long walks and currently is not interested in playing with toys. Lokey may be alright with children as he wagged his tail when he was approached by the toddler toll during testing. He was frightened of the unusually dressed stranger during the evaluation and was slightly worried when threatened by a male. He was more receptive to a female dog than a male dog but was intact when tested. He did not like the male dog he met during his evaluation.

Lokey will make an excellent pet for someone looking for a Jindo. He will thrive in a loving home and in return will be a very loyal companion to his new owners. Lokey would do well in a home experienced with Asian spitz breeds or other dominant breeds. He should not be placed into a home with cats and would probably do best as an only dog. Anyone interested in adopting Lokey should fully research the Jindo breed, as an understanding of this breed’s primitive nature is essential for providing Lokey a loving home.
