Lobo's Story
Lobo is the first dog Celebration of Canine Lives Sanctuary has rescued. He was found as a stray in the Kinzua Dam area and never claimed. The people who found him were unable to find a permanent, adoptive home for him, so he came to our sanctuary. As of 12/23/24, he is approximately 3 years old.

Lobo is a very sweet and gentle dog who has an excellent disposition. He is gentle and kind-hearted. Lobo does exhibit some cautious and shy tendencies with unfamiliar people, but warms up when people allow him to be the one to initiate interaction. Because of Lobo's cautious tendencies, he must go to an adult home or a home with gentle, mature children (around 13+). Lobo absolutely loves to play with other dogs. From everything we've observed, he has excellent communication skills and would thrive in a home with another dog(s) to play with. Lobo also appears to be very gentle with cats. We have observed some of his interactions with cats of varying personalities, and he has never demonstrated aggressive behavior. He was even a little afraid of a particularly confident and territorial cat. We will do even more thorough cat testing if a potential adopter is interested in Lobo and has a cat(s).

Lobo's favorite activities are going for long hikes, riding in the car, exploring new parks and hiking trails, doing Nose Work and playing with other dogs. He also absolutely loves the snow. He will need an active home that will take him for long walks/hikes. He would also do well in a home that has a fenced in yard (no invisible fencing or electric collars), but a fenced in yard is not a requirement. Although we have been working on recall cues with Lobo, he has some independent and stubborn tendencies and there are times when he simply chooses not to listen, so it is very important that he is never allowed to roam off-leash in an uncontained area. Lobo is used to walking with a harness and a 20-ft leash, and for the most part, is fairly easy to handle on leash.

In all the months of being at our sanctuary, Lobo has only had one accident in his room. Although there are no guarantees, we feel he is pretty much housetrained. He does have some tendencies to put things in his mouth, so it is important that an adoptive home would be willing to keep dangerous and/or valuable possessions away from his reach. Lobo may do well starting off in a gated area of a house and gradually expanding the amount of free-roaming space he has when left alone. Lobo is very active, intelligent and sociable and will need a home where he is NOT left alone for more than a small handful of hours a day.

Our sanctuary requires a detailed adoption application, personal references, a veterinary reference and an in-person home visit. Due to his shy tendencies, potential adopters may be required to visit him several times before taking him home. Potential adopters must live in an approximate 150-mile radius of Cuba, NY.
