Lloyd's Story

Have you been feeling lonely and lost? Is your house too quiet, too clean? Do you find yourself thinking ‘I would like really like to raise a puppy!’ Lloyd is for you! He is a puppy in every sense of the word: he loves to chew, explore, run, jump, play with other dogs, the cat, people, … and did we mention chew?

Lloyd was born in December 2025, and currently weighs about 25#. He is an Australian Cattle Dog mix named for the horse trainer who found him living on a farm. He was the last puppy from his litter and was living with horses and other dogs. His friendly, happy, social demeanor was impossible to miss, and he quickly hitched a ride into rescue. Maybe his floppy ears and diamond of blue in one eye helped him stand out?

He has taken his new chapter in stride and now lives with kids, cats, people and dogs in a busy household. Lloyd is a very social puppy who loves everyone, happily greeting visitors to the home and effortlessly charming them. He has puppy energy (go-go-go-nap!) and learns quickly. He walks nicely on a leash and has been practicing his “town manners” when out and about.

Even though Lloyd is a busy guy learning about the world, he crates well at night and is content and relaxed in the house. He likes to hang out where the people are with a chew toy, or watching activities in the kitchen, patiently waiting for someone to drop food.

The perfect companion for a herding-dog savvy person, couple or family, Lloyd wants to take obedience classes and be part of lots of activities. He loves playing ‘farm agility’ and will be great at any dog sport or as the sidekick to an active human. He’s a handsome guy who is ready to do all the things with his person!

Lloyd is being fostered in St. Joseph, MN.

Lloyd's adoption fee is $550 + MN sales tax. He is up to date on age-appropriate vaccines. He will be neutered and microchipped at the age of 6 months at one of the vet clinics we work with: the cost of this procedure is included in his adoption fee. Upon adoption, all of our dogs go to their new homes with a collar and harness, leash, starter food, blanket, favorite toys & treats. They are current on flea/tick and heartworm prevention.

As a foster-based rescue, we do not have a central facility to visit. Meet and greets with specific dogs are arranged once your adoption application (not an inquiry through Petfinder) has been received, processed, and approved. We are located in Minnesota and adopt to an area 400 miles from Minneapolis/St. Paul.

Heart of a Border Collie Rescue's Adoption Policy
Please read 'Do You Have What It Takes' on our website (www.hoabcr.org/how-to-adopt) before applying to adopt a dog through our rescue. You may also find information about Border Collies helpful (www.hoabcr.org/border-collie-info). Steps in our adoption process include: 1) Filling out an application. Taking this step indicates you are truly interested in adopting a dog - it is not binding. 2) If your application meets the requirements for the dog you're interested in, it will be screened through an initial interview with one of our volunteers. If your application does not meet the requirements, you will not be contacted. 3) If we determine your home could be a good fit for one of our dogs, we will complete reference and vet checks, and set up a home visit, which may occur in person or virtually. 4) If approved, details about your application are sent to the foster that has the dog that you're interested in. If the foster feels you are a match for their foster dog, they will call you to talk in detail about the dog, and possibly move to an in-person meeting. Meetings are allowed AFTER applications are fully approved as described above. 5) If that dog is not deemed to be a good match, we may suggest another dog for you, or your application will be kept on file for a potential future dog. 6) Adoption is complete with payment and a signed adoption contract. Our adoption fees are specified in individual Petfinder listings. The fee includes spay/neuter, microchip, heartworm and Lyme tests, rabies & distemper & Bordetella vaccinations (if old enough). Our dogs go to their new homes with a collar, harness, leash, rescue ID tag, starter food, toys and blanket. We are required to charge appropriate MN sales tax.
