Llana's Story
Llana in a foster home. Please submit an application from our website and/or email dogs@heartlandanimalshelter.org to learn if you are a match!

Scroll through her pictures to see her cute videos!

Beautiful Llana was brought to Chicago Animal Care and Control when she was found living outside on her own. She had clearly not been well cared for. She had heartworm, demodex mange, and other signs that she had not had an easy life so far.

Despite a hard life, everything about Llana is soft. She looks at the staff and volunteers with the most caring eyes, she greets visitors to her kennel with a happy wiggle, and she has absolutely delicious wrinkles on her sweet face.

Llana lived in a foster home after arriving at Heartland so she could decompress, and we were able to learn that she got along with the resident dog and is housebroken, low-key, quiet, and easy in a home. Llana is now at our shelter, and we are learning more about her! Llana prefers to hang out with male dogs over the other girls, and is best friends with Waddles! It's funny to watch her paw him to try to get him to play.

Her true love, though, is for time spent with people. She truly is a "people" dog, and prefers to be close to those she loves. She loves to jump up on the bench and cuddle closely. She will even lay on her back and allow you to trim her nails - something that is really tough for some dogs. She is truly amazing!

If you're someone who believes that the most beautiful souls are often the ones who've been through the most, Llana might be the girl you've been waiting for.

Llana's adoption fee is $300.00 This animal is spayed and up to date on core vaccines.

Llana is Heartworm positive and is undergoing treatment with us. Heartland will cover the cost of treatment until he is Heartworm negative.

Heartworm is not contagious to other dogs or people; it is a mosquito-borne disease. It is both preventable and curable! Once cured, there are no long term health effects associated with having Heartworm.

Llana is on a 28 day course of antibiotics, after which she will receive three injections to treat her Heartworm, all to take place at our shelter with our veterinarian. Dates for injections are 01/06/26, 02/10/26, and 02/11/26.

That will complete the treatment, but she will need a quick retest at the adopter's vet 9 months post-treatment to make sure that she is Heartworm-free.
