Linus's Story

Linus will investigate the whole parking lot, every leaf blowing across it and both of your shoelaces, and then he comes back to see what you made of all that. He is four months old and he is doing this for the first time.

He is a warm red fawn color with a dark muzzle, a white blaze down his chest and four white feet. He came to Petersburg Animal Care and Control on August 26, 2026 with his littermate Lucy.

Linus is good with other dogs, and that is something we have seen here rather than something we are guessing at. He takes a treat gently from a hand. He is not fearful and he is not shy about people. He can also go home on his own. He and Lucy do not need to be adopted together.

Being honest about what we do not know: Linus has not been around children or cats, so we cannot tell you how he would do with either. He is a puppy, which means house training, chew management and basic manners are all still ahead of him. Whoever takes him gets to shape every bit of that from here.

We prefer to schedule appointments for meet and greets to make sure someone is available to spend time with you. The shelter is open Monday through Friday, 12pm to 4pm, and appointments outside of those hours may be available based on volunteer availability. Petersburg Animal Care & Control's Adoption Policy
Thank you for your interest in adopting from Petersburg Animal Care & Control! We’re so glad you’re considering giving a shelter pet a loving home. We do not charge an adoption fee; however, all animals must be spayed or neutered prior to adoption, and the cost of the procedure is covered by the adopter. We’re happy to support adopters by coordinating appointments with our low-cost veterinary partners for spay/neuter services and other basic care needs. Adoption Process • We prefer to schedule appointments for meet-and-greets to ensure that staff or volunteers are available to spend adequate time helping you get to know the animal. • When you arrive, please sign in and wait to be escorted by a staff member or volunteer before entering the kennel areas. • For safety reasons, please do not reach into kennels or attempt to touch animals through barriers. If you’re interested in a particular pet, our team will bring them to a meet-and-greet area for proper introductions. • After your visit, you’re welcome to submit an adoption application. Applications must be approved before we can schedule a meet-and-greet with your family pets. • Meet-and-greets with personal pets are by appointment only, and for safety, two staff members must be present to handle all animals involved. We appreciate your patience and understanding as we work to make each match the best fit possible — both for our animals and their future families.
