Lily's Story
Pug Rescue of New England (PRoNE) is a non-profit 501(c)(3), all volunteer foster home based rescue organization.

Lily is Looking for her Furever

Lily is a sweet, energetic 12-year-old female puggle who came into foster care this past Summer and has been hoping for someone to choose her as their forever dog. She recently changed foster homes when it was time for her original foster family to travel as they do every winter. She has adjusted readily and eagerly adapted to her new foster family just as she did when she first got here. This is an example of what an easy dog Lily is. She is so friendly and loved spending time at our Pug Social in September meeting lots of new friends. There are several small dogs in her foster home and she is getting along great with them.

Looking for a sidekick who likes spending time taking short walks, helping you around the kitchen, snuggling and watching TV on the couch (especially if there is a dog program), taking trips in the car, and is generally your shadow? Lily is the girl for you.

She is friendly with children, small dogs, and adults but does not like cats or large dogs.

Lily is smart, obeys commands, and has impeccable house manners. She knows sit and comes when called and will give paw when she feels like it. She can also catch a kernel of popcorn in midair! Her favorite toy is a stuffed whale, but she enjoys selecting random toys out of the basket for variety. She is loving her walks and has made quite a few friends in the neighborhood. She remembers their houses and likes to saunter right up the walkway. She'll be getting caught in 5K on lots of Ring doorbells! Lily is a quick little spitfire who really loves running and playing in her fenced back yard. We think she would love her own area to prance around in with her new family. Those with puggle experience will appreciate their scent hound tendencies, so a secured fenced yard will be a must for Lily.

Lily was diagnosed with (likely pituitary dependent) Cushing's disease soon after her arrival in foster care. She has responded very well to her medication which will be a monthly cost of approximately $100.00. She will require ongoing monitoring by your vet. She has occasional accidents in the house related to her disease and has been using diapers for this. She has some soft masses on her body which the vet is not concerned about. They will of course require watching.

Lily shows several beagle traits that require monitoring and training. She is obsessed with food (both hers and yours) requiring trash to be secured, food placed out of reach and feeding her separately from the family pug. She has a beagle bark which she uses whenever she wants your attention (or your food). Her foster family distracts her with a Kong and that has worked well.

Lily is an animated, friendly girl looking for a loving forever home where she will shower you with kisses and gratitude for being her forever. Adopting a senior dog has so many rewards. Lily is such a sweet girl and really does not require much more than the commitment to love and care for her through her golden years.

ADOPTION FEE: $100.00 based on age

ADOPTION REQUIREMENTS FOR LILY:

Fenced in secured yard

Small dog companion ok, or could be an only

No big dogs, no cats

Dog savvy children aged 10 and older

Work from home or retired adopter or split schedule would be ideal for Lily's senior years but not mandatory. Must have arrangements to potty no greater than every 6 hours

Accepting of Lily's beagle side which makes her a bit more vocal than your average pug. Continuing behavior modification of rewarding quiet times and offering distractions when barking such as Kong or sit command with treat.
Commitment to ongoing medical needs including daily medication administration and follow up as recommended by veterinarian
Commitment to flea, tick and heartworm prevention

If you are interested in adopting, your home situation MUST meet this criteria:

A vet reference check, dog walker check (if applicable), landlord check (if applicable), a phone interview and home visit will be conducted prior to approval. If you think a pug is right for your family and you meet the criteria, please apply to adopt on our website at www.pugrescueofnewengland.org.

BE SURE TO REFERENCE THE SPECIFIC PUG!

Our mission is simple: we find homes for abandoned and surrendered pugs in New England. Our pugs will be UTD on shots and spayed or neutered prior to adoption. You must be a resident of the New England states. Due to a change in state regulations, we are no longer adopting outside of New England.

PRoNE is supported by adoption fees, donations and funds raised through auctions and events. Adoption fees range from $200-$1,000 which is based on age of the dog. Effective in January 2023, we have imposed a $150 Spay/Neuter Fee (if required) and a $500 Transportation Fee (For dogs requiring air/cargo travel). Pug Mixes will be discounted by $100 off the fee for their age range.
