Meet Lily

Lily is a 50 lb, 2-year-old Yellow Lab/Wirehaired Terrier mix. She came to us from a shelter in North Georgia. She recently had a litter of puppies and was found as a skinny, flea-ridden stray. Nobody claimed her, so she needs a new family now.

When you meet Lily, the first thing you notice is her soft, submissive demeanor. Sweet girl doesn’t have much confidence, so she is timid around new people. She will tenderly take treats from your hand, and that is the best way to make friends with her. Once she gets to know you, Lily loves to be petted and have her back scratched.

The next thing you notice about Lily is her unusual gait. Her rear legs are stiff and she sometimes does a sideways “bunny hop” when she walks quickly. This isn’t normal, so we had her x-rayed earlier this week. Lily was found to have mild hip dysplasia on one side, but both of her knee joints have severe deterioration. This is unusual for a dog of Lily’s young age, so the vet suspects this is either a congenital issue or possibly from an autoimmune episode that caused degeneration of her knee joints. There is no surgical treatment to cure this, but thankfully, Lily doesn’t appear to be in any pain at this time. Down the road, she may need daily pain medication and further medical management. For now, Lily needs daily joint supplements (easily purchased over the counter) and a low-key lifestyle with minimal exercise. She cannot do stairs, so she needs to live in a one-level home with easy access to a fenced back yard. The fenced yard is a requirement, as she likes her privacy and will not potty on a leash. Lily is good with other dogs and we suspect she would do well with cats and children as well. She has a kind, gentle nature and wants only to be loved.

Lily is fully vetted -- spayed, microchipped, heartworm negative, and current on vaccinations and deworming. The adoption fee is $200. We accept payment in the form of cash, CashApp and Zelle. You can apply to adopt by submitting an application at www.sohfga.com.
