Lillie (in foster)'s Story

Lillie is an energetic and intelligent young dog who is ready for a fresh start. She loves being included, enjoys learning, and has the potential to grow into a wonderful companion with the right guidance.

Lillie is spayed, cat friendly, dog friendly with proper introductions, crate trained, and fully house trained. She previously lived in a home and is familiar with household routines.

Lillie would not be recommended for a home with small children due to some resource guarding tendencies, though this has improved significantly with consistent work. It is not 100 percent resolved yet, but she has made great progress and continues to improve with structure and positive reinforcement.

She can show some reactivity on leash or behind fences, which is common for young, energetic dogs who are still learning how to regulate their excitement. With patient handling and continued training, she has shown that she can make steady progress.

Lillie was previously in a foster-to-adopt home where she was not a match with the resident dog. Since returning, she has shown no dog aggression and enjoys positive, playful interactions with other friendly dogs. She lights up when she has the chance to play and would likely thrive with another active dog or an adopter who enjoys keeping her engaged.

Lillie is social, curious, and full of puppy energy. She is eager to learn, eager to bond, and eager to be part of a home that provides structure and consistency. If you are looking for a playful, affectionate young dog who is ready to grow into a loyal companion, Lillie may be the perfect fit.

Email adoptpetersburg@gmail.com to learn more or schedule a meet and greet.

Petersburg Animal Care & Control's Adoption Policy
Thank you for your interest in adopting from Petersburg Animal Care & Control! We’re so glad you’re considering giving a shelter pet a loving home. We do not charge an adoption fee; however, all animals must be spayed or neutered prior to adoption, and the cost of the procedure is covered by the adopter. We’re happy to support adopters by coordinating appointments with our low-cost veterinary partners for spay/neuter services and other basic care needs. Adoption Process • We prefer to schedule appointments for meet-and-greets to ensure that staff or volunteers are available to spend adequate time helping you get to know the animal. • When you arrive, please sign in and wait to be escorted by a staff member or volunteer before entering the kennel areas. • For safety reasons, please do not reach into kennels or attempt to touch animals through barriers. If you’re interested in a particular pet, our team will bring them to a meet-and-greet area for proper introductions. • After your visit, you’re welcome to submit an adoption application. Applications must be approved before we can schedule a meet-and-greet with your family pets. • Meet-and-greets with personal pets are by appointment only, and for safety, two staff members must be present to handle all animals involved. We appreciate your patience and understanding as we work to make each match the best fit possible — both for our animals and their future families.
