Pender County Humane Society's Adoption Policy
Adoption Policy At Pender County Humane Society, our goal is to make lifelong matches between our animals and their families. Every adoption is carefully considered to ensure the best possible fit for both the adopter and the pet. Our adoption process includes: Adoption Application – Every potential adopter completes an application so we can learn about their home, lifestyle, and the type of companion they are looking for. Meet & Greet – If there are existing dogs in the household, we require a meet and greet to help ensure everyone gets along before adoption. Home Visit – A home visit allows us to verify that the environment is safe and appropriate for the animal and gives adopters the opportunity to ask any additional questions. Two-Week Trial Adoption – We offer a two-week trial period because we understand that bringing home a new pet is a big adjustment. This allows both the family and the animal time to determine if the match is the right one. Our commitment to our animals does not end when they leave the shelter. If, for any reason, an adoption is not successful—whether it is two weeks, two months, or even years later—we require that the animal be returned to Pender County Humane Society. We will always welcome our animals back and ensure they receive the care they need while we help them find another loving home. Our goal is not simply to place animals in homes—it is to find them the right homes where they can thrive for the rest of their lives.
