Liberty's Story

LIBERTY is a tiny pup who was surrendered along with her 3 siblings because the family had too many dogs and they felt they could not place these pups in good homes near their remote rural area. They arrived at PUP well fed and well cared for. Two of the pups have smooth coats and two have scruffy coats. Liberty is one of the scruffies. We don’t have a picture of mom but were told she looked like a Yorkie. We believe Liberty will be a small breed dog when full grown but her adopter should be prepared to love and adore her if she is smaller or larger than predicted. The vet aged her at 7-8 weeks on 9-28 and she weighed 2.43#

We submitted a DNA sample on Liberty and we found 16 breeds with double digits at Chihuahua, Pomeranina, Yorkshire Terrier and Shih Tzu. The rest were under 10% and included Miniature Poodle, Maltese, Bichon Frise, Pekingese, Havanese, American Eskimo, Miki, Parson Russel Terrier, Welsh Corgi, Australian Cattle Dog, Beagle and Cocker Spaniel. Liberty is learning to use newspapers in the house and has yet to begin outside house breaking.

The early months are when puppy learns the social skills needed to be a skilled dog in dealing with other dogs and a good citizen in the human world. Adopters should be committed to getting puppy into lots of new and different human social situations, hearing vacuums, trucks, and rattling garbage cans, meeting people who are clapping, laughing, with hats, tools, bikes and skate boards. AND puppy needs many opportunities to meet and greet dogs of all shapes, sizes and dispositions. Just sharing a home with another dog is not as much doggie socializing as puppy needs. If good canine social skills are not learned and maintained during these early months, it will be very difficult to ever master them. Puppy play dates, trips to the pet store, puppy socialization classes and later, obedience classes are particularly important. If all this doggie time and involvement seems like a good idea, you are up for a puppy! As always, a tired dog is a good dog.

Puppy has been vet checked, is vaccinated, and de-wormed. He will need two additional puppy vaccinations plus rabies at the adopter’s expense. We do place puppies outside the metro area if a firm plan for the alter surgery is in place; we do not ship. Her required alter surgery is covered by the adoption fee if it is done by 6 months at the PUP clinic. We require that she be altered by 6 months.

If you are at least 21 years old and everyone in your household is on board with adopting a puppy, CALL 651-645-4370 between 7:00 am and 9:30 pm and we will return your call within 24 hours. We are pretty slow at responding to e-mail. Renters must provide proof that you are allowed to have a puppy. If you currently have a companion dog or cat please be prepared to provide a vet reference prior to adoption if requested.
