Libby's Story
After a difficult start in life, Libby is ready to find a place to call her own - a patient understanding home where she can finally feel safe.

This sweet 6-year old shih tzu poodle mix, who weighs about 20 pounds, came from a neglectful situation where she never received routine veterinary or grooming care. Because of her past she is understandably cautious around new people and can be fearful when strangers enter her home. Libby does display fear-based reactivity when she feels overwhelmed, so she will need an adopter who is committed to ongoing positive reinforcement training to help her continue to build confidence at her own pace. She needs time to observe, trust and feel that she is safe. She is making great strides in her foster home and we will be able to share tips and tricks to help her settle into her new routine.

The beautiful thing about Libby is that once you have earned her trust you'll discover an incredibly loving and loyal companion. She forms deep bonds with her people and enjoys snuggling close to those she knows and loves. She is a devoted best friend who has so much love to give. She especially loves playing with her toys and enjoys a good game of fetch! Libby is happy to go on daily walks but she is still working on her manners when meeting unfamiliar dogs and people (and squirrels!) She is currently fostered in a home with three other small breed dogs and does great with them. All of the resident dogs in her foster home are seniors and are lowkey, we do not think she would appreciate an in-your-face companion. She has had visits from the older elementary and middle school age grandchildren of her foster family and, now that she has gotten used to their visits, doesn't mind their company. If there are any children in her adoptive family's life they will need to be older and respectful of dogs.

With everything that we know, we believe that Libby would thrive in:
-An adult only home
-A calm, low traffic household
-Being the only pet, or a house with low key adult dogs (no cats for Libby)
-A yard with a fence
-An adopter who understands that trust takes time

If you believe every dog deserves a second chance and have room in your heart for a loyal companion, then Libby might just be waiting for you!

Libby's adoption fee is $500! This adoption fee includes: her alter, a microchip, her rabies, bordetella, and age appropriate DAPP vaccines, flea/heartworm preventative, and a deworming treatment while in foster care.

If you think she may be perfect for you, please apply using the link below!

https://www.cognitoforms.com/NorthPawRescue/NorthPawRescueAdoptionApplication

**Unfortunately, we cannot adopt out to Canada at this time.

**We require a 60 minute adoption radius. This dog is currently being fostered in North Chili, NY.
