Meet Lexi - local gal

Please read Lexi's entire profile, which includes a link to the adoption application. Thank you!**

This stately lady is Lexi, a 6 1/2 year-old, 71-pound, Labrador mix.

Lexi has been on our website for a such a long time - we just don't get it. This girl is such the package - a happy, wonderful and BEAUTIFUL girl!! Which is why we don't understand how she has been in northern foster care close to a year now. This girl is a gem!

Watch how great she was on the WBZ Pet Parade at https://www.cbsnews.com/boston/video/pet-parade-great-dog-rescue-of-new-england-in-woburn/
What a cutie!

Her foster mom shares "When I tell people Lexi is over 6, they do a double take and ask 6 months or 6 years old? She is learning to calmly meet new people (which in Lexi’s mind translates to each new person is a new best friend). She is both crate trained and able to remain loose in the house when she’s alone. She is the definition of a Velcro dog: wherever you go, she wants to be. I have been taking her to work with me and she loves to just hang out in my office. She just sits or lies down while you do whatever and when you move she is on the move too. She loves attention, cuddles, listening to you talk and just about anything you want to do that gives her attention. She loves the couch and a cozy blanket. She is happy to chew on her plush toys and bones in the house and we are happy to say that in the last month every plush toy has survived!"

Lexi is smart: she has good recall and already knows a slew of commands, including "get in your crate", "sit", "on me", "off", "potty", and "up". She is very treat motivated so easy to train. Her foster parents are successfully teaching her to not pull and bark at dogs while on her walk. She has learned to love walks so much and they think she would make a wonderful hiking or running buddy. She definitely is strong so she would need a family that can handle her on a leash. Lexi's ideal family will be able to give her the structure she needs to feel safe and comfortable, as well as the time to reinforce her training.

As loving as Lexi is with people she has trouble with other dogs. We aren't sure what it stems from and she has lived with a dog in foster - but we do think she would be happiest as your only dog. She has now had experience with cats so could live with one. Although she has not had much experience with children, she has such a sweet, gentle nature that we expect she can be socialized to really enjoy the company of kids. Due to her size we would recommend older kids.

Lexi has medium energy, meaning she will play if play is initiated and she will quickly settle and be calm when needed. She is house trained and crate trained.

Lexi is an absolute sweetheart, and is looking for her forever family.

Please note, GDRNE does not guarantee the breed of any dog or puppy unless stated that we have run DNA. All breeds listed are educated estimates. Our dogs are rescued from various situations. It is most likely that both their parents were strays and even if not, mixes of some sort and that their grandparents were mixes as well. The dog may have some genetic material of an American Staffordshire Terrier (pit bull). The dogs are usually mixes of many breeds, making them a breed all their own - a True and adorable American MUTT.
If you are interested in this dog, you must submit an application. Great Dog is not a shelter so there is no building you can visit. Our dogs live in private foster homes until adopted.
