Lewis--Courtesy Post--Not an LELRR dog and no need for application's Story
Lewis is a gentle soul who knows what he needs—and with the right person, he will give you his whole loyal heart.

Hello! My name is Lewis, and I'm 7 years old and 90 pounds of pure chocolate Lab. When I am being my true self, I am mellow and have a lot of love to give the right person. I go by Lewis, but the people who know me best sometimes call me Moose or Mister Moo. I think those names suit me pretty well.

I'm what you might call half Eeyore and half Rabbit—low-key when things are quietly normal and full of nervous energy when I sense something (anything) is about to change. I'm not destructive. I won't chew your furniture, steal your shoes, or make a mess of things. I know my commands (come, sit, wait, down, back, off, up, gentle, get the ball, get a toy, etc.), I like local car rides, and I live happily indoors.

I also really like poultry but it doesn't like me back, so my kibble has to be egg and poultry free. I've been able to tolerate the occasional yummy treat with poultry in it. I also eat really fast, so I have a metal maze bowl to slow me down a bit. I'm good at leaving other food alone, including things on the counter, but who could blame me for always looking for floor snacks?

The human who takes care of me usually works from home, and I love to be as close to her as possible—except when I put myself to bed at night. A peaceful walk in cooler temps totally makes my day, but I struggle in hot, humid weather and also when the human wants to workout. I am really good at playing fetch in a fenced-in yard; I often get so enthusiastic I need to be reminded to take a break. My vet just checked my joints and said they are still ok. Whew!

I do have anxiety, and I want my new family to know that going in. I take a daily medication that helps a bit, along with a calming supplement with my evening meal. I do best with consistency and tranquility. Loud sounds (like thunderstorms, fireworks, raised voices) worry me. New places (hotels, restaurant patios, campsites, unfamiliar homes) are especially hard for me, so a family that loves to travel may not be my best match. I'm a homebody at heart.

Even though I am neutered, I have some strong feelings about other dogs. I get over-excited when I pass them on walks or meet them off-leash. I am especially unable to control my energy around other male dogs. As you might guess, dog parks and play dates aren't really my scene. Boarding at a nice, clean kennel is ok, but I am not able to play with other dogs there (I did try!), so I get kinda lonely.

I've lived comfortably alongside a calm, confident female dog for a while, and I've been fine around cats in a sitter's home in the past. I've also spent time with children as young as three without any trouble, but I do crave tpredicability and a strong routine.

When I was a puppy, I was crate trained. When I moved to a new house, I became afraid of unfamiliar noises and started breaking out of my crate on the regular. So, I don't stay in one anymore and feel ok when my companion dog and I are on our own for a few hours. I also need a securely fenced yard; otherwise, I'm tempted to roam.

The place I'm dreaming of? A steady life with someone retired or home most of the time who has a house with a nice, safe backyard, and maybe one female dog for company. Someone patient and dog-savvy who will appreciate a mellow, loyal companion who just wants to be close.

I come with my food, my medication, and all my records. I can't wait to find my person. With some training and consistency I could be a wonderful addition to your home.

If you're interested in learning more about me, contact my mom at jencarroll2197@gmail.com or 330-495-6599
