MEET LESTER….aka “Gizmo” – as his fosters call him because of his adorable gremlin noises. Lester will grab your heart and not let go! Weighing in at 18 lbs, this 3 yr old, tri colored Shih Tzu has not had an easy start at life. Dad passed away and he was left with a family with medical issues who could not care for him. Came to us with a double ear and eye infection, both treated and he’s doing great. Treating his eyes is a breeze. He does have slight dry eye and will need meds daily, maybe forever. Treating his ears can be a little challenging, but he gets used to it.<br/><br/>Lester is a wonderful pup who needs structure and boundaries and to feel safe. Loves to play, chase balls and fetch! Loves to be near you and get attention, sometimes demands it and will make little gremlin noises to get it (especially at dinner)! He’s a big snuggler – will sit at your feet, sleep on your lap, and wants to be your cuddly shadow!<br/><br/>Lester will replace any alarm system and will bark to alert. He will stand between you and the noise to let you know he’s your protector. Does have resource guarding issues, particularly with food/ toys and possibly the couch (or anything he claims), and will occasionally steal a sock out of the laundry. He is very food motivated and will surrender if you bribe him with a treat. If you set him up for success, he is very smart and will respond accordingly. There were some nipping incidents early on in his foster home (he got too riled up at feeding), but he has responded very well to training and is a super quick learner. Very much thrives with consistency and structure and is eager to please. He needs savvy, extremely patient parents who have dealt with stubborn Shih Tzus and are committed to continuing his training. This will be the key to Lester’s success – he needs to be reminded who the boss is!<br/><br/>Ideal home will be without kids, with/without another dog (preferably bigger than Lester), and parents who work remote and can give him lots of attention. He’s potty trained (took a day to figure out where in the yard go), but we never guarantee! Lester has his basic leash manner down and loves his walks and his time exploring. He’s learning that snuggle time on the couch/bed must be earned. Absolutely needs a family who understands parameters and will work with him. If you’re looking for a best friend, look no further!
