Leslie’s FAQs

What is Recycled Pets, Inc.’s adoption process?

Our Process At Recycled Pets, Inc. our emphasis is placed on the quality of the adoption rather than the quantity of adoptions performed. We are not in the business of selling dogs or cats to the first person that brings the money, but of adopting homeless animals into suitable homes. When we say "forever home" that means a lifelong commitment to the adoptive animal you have been selected to bring home. Our adoption process is designed to carefully match a pet to fit in with your lifestyle and housing situation among other criteria. This can take some time, but we are very proud of the success we have enjoyed. If you are anxious to get the perfect pet instantaneouly, rescue may not be for you. We will make every effort to expedite the process when possible. We strive to find permanent homes for all of our homeless pets, and we want the transition into your household to be successful. We encourage you to contact us if questions arise about your new pet. Our volunteers are well versed in animal behavior, and can make suggestions to help you in your journey towards happy pet ownership. Adopting a New Companion Animal Due to the reasons outlined above, Recycled Pets, Inc. does not perform same-day adoptions. Our rescued animals come from all kinds of situations, including homes where they have been abused or where children were allowed to tease or mistreat the animal. Because of this, we have a policy of not adopting to families with children under the age of 5. This policy is for the protection of your children, our rescue animals, and for liability reasons. If you are applying for one of our animals from out of state, please note that we do not ship animals. If you are truly interested in adopting, you must be willing to make the trip to meet us and your potential pet. We have had many successful out of state adoptions, even a few international ones, and encourage you to apply. How to Submit an Application For an on-line application CLICK HERE A volunteer will review the application, and will contact you either by phone or e-mail with questions. Approved applicants will be scheduled an appointment to meet the pet for which they have applied. If we feel you are not a good fit for the animal for whatever reason, you will be notified via e-mail. Typically, this process takes about a week. Adoption fees cover the spay/neuter surgery, vaccinations, worming and microchip. There is an additional $15 microchip registration fee at the time of adoption that is not covered by the adoption fee. You will find that our fee is considerably less expensive than going to the vet yourself. Our vets support rescue and provide reduced rates for their services. Adoption fees must be in cash only and an adoption contract signed. This is a binding legal document that provides for returning the pet if no longer wanted and allows for quick reclaim if there is abuse; the animal is found roaming free; or the pet is suffering from neglect. Occasionally, there will be a follow up inquiry as to how the adopted pet is doing and, hopefully, you would like to share your success story with us to post on the web. Where To See Our Pets Please view our pets online. If you see one you are interested in, please fill out the online app and we will set up an appointment to meet. Our facebook page will have weekend viewing dates of our pets line 2
