Meet Leroy Brown

**************************

Leroy Brown needs an experienced foster home with dog behavior experience while he waits for his forever home. No children, adult only home, within the Lower Mainland ONLY.

Leroy Brown came to us on January 26, 2016 from the Chilliwack Animal Shelter. He was picked up in Chilliwack as a stray dog, and was never reclaimed.

Leroy has been a very challenging case, he has been one of the longer term rehab dogs we have had here. He has blossomed and turned into a dog that we all love very much, and it is his time to find his perfect match.

When he came in he was very untrusting of humans. He was totally put off by ANY NEGATIVE interactions and we learned that he responded in a positive manner to only positive interactions. This is hard to explain while typing, but the gist is that he was obviously treated very poorly in his life, and he retaliated by protecting himself against his abusers. Any type of threatening movements or language from a human, immediately put Leroy in his protection mode. Including using the word NO in any harsh tones. Using the words Bad Dog makes Leroy show you his shiny white teeth.

Leroy was also extremely reactive to the broom and mop. Plus if we picked up any spray bottles of cleaners, he would react to us holding the bottle.

He was easier to work with because he gave clear signals of what his triggers were, and gave plenty of warning growls when he felt uncomfortable. We were able to read his body language and the way he talked to us, to create a method of training that worked for him.

It was also easier because he is very food and toy motivated. And would do whatever you asked if you had a treat or a squeaky toy. But this leads to the potential of Leroy Brown becoming overweight LOL.

Leroy's perfect home would be with a single person or a couple, with no children and no visiting children. People who do not use aversive training methods EVER. This includes no negative commands. No "bad dog" words, no yelling, and no threatening him in any way, shape or form.

His perfect people should be experienced with positive training methods and should understand the body language of a dog. They must accept that Leroy will growl and that is his way of talking to you.

Leroy isn't a fearful dog, he's confident. The only time he shows that he's uncomfortable or fearful of his human is when he feels threatened.

Believe me when I tell you, he is worth all the work we have put in, and you will feel the same way, once he shows you what a wonderful, loving, playful boy he is.

Leroy's adoption fee is $295. He is neutered, vaccinated, flea treated. And tattooed.
