Leroy may be a dignified older gent, but he's still very much young at heart.

---

Condensed Staff Assessment Notes: Leroy is an older dog with a playful energy. Initially hesitant to engage with our stranger, he quickly warmed up but frequently shifted his attention back to me. His approach to the tester dog was much ruder. Despite showing play signals, his focus was intense, but I was able to redirect him with vocal cues. After some time outside, both dogs interacted better.

He eagerly explored the shelter grounds, and while he occasionally jumped, it wasn't too forceful. Leroy had a hard time staying still during husbandry handling, he seemed to enjoy walking through my legs and standing partially under me to receive butt scratches.

During the assessment, he showed stability around objects and sounds, recovering quickly from any startles. He understood commands like "sit," "come," and "shake," though he grabbed treats rudely. When I attempted to take his food dish, he body-blocked me but eventually complied. He ignored my cues to stop jumping on the counter.

Leroy loved playtime, running around and jumping lightly. He calmed down quickly when play paused and enjoyed various toys, except for a rubber squeak toy. We played tug-of-war and fetch with different toys, and I used food to redirect him when it was time to put the toys away.

If interested in a pet at the Lycoming County SPCA, please fill out an adoption application. The application is available on our website: lycomingspca.org. We may require additional steps in our process such as a home visit, permission from parents, or other additional requests. We appreciate your patience as we complete your adoption. Before adding a new member to your family, please consider the following: Many pets live 10 to 15 years. How old will you be? How old will your children be? Is there a chance you could move in the next 10 years? Are you willing to restrict your choice of housing to accommodate a pet? If the pet is for a child are you willing to assume the care of the pet? Children must have parental guidance to care for a pet regardless of their age. Each breed of animal has genetic characteristics that need to be considered. Have you researched the breed that you are interested in? Are you financially prepared for a pet? Consider the following expenses: spaying or neutering, basic veterinary care, flea preventative, heart worm preventative, license, food, grooming.
