Leonard's Story

Leonard (affectionately known as Lenny) came to us as a scared little guy that just wanted to be invisible in the back of his pen. At first, he had to be carried to places at the shelter, and then in his foster home, because he was scared to venture outside of his crate. The friendly dog in his foster home-made attempts to play and although curious, Lenny was reluctant to join in. He did look to her for guidance and appeared to take comfort in her presence but wasn't sure about trusting dogs or humans.

Fast forward a month or so and we have a whole new boy! Lenny has become much more curious and happier. He will literally dance with excitement when he knows it's time to go for a walk. Now, he not only plays with dogs but LOVES and initiates it. He has a rough and tumble play style and wants to engage with EVERY dog he sees. He occasionally gets a case of the zoomies on walks and pulling on leash when he wants to visit another doggo, making him feel a bit stronger than his 34lbs, although he is learning to listen to redirection. He could still be a bit nervous with some unexpected noises. This sweet little fella is showing more personality and happiness every day. To continue that progress, he would do best in his new home with another playful dog.

Lenny is a tender-hearted, affectionate 9-month-old, perhaps Staffy or Boxer mix, who is perfectly potty and crate trained. He is very interested in greeting passing people, however, may still show a little hesitation when people reach for him. Once you sit on the couch with him, be ready to become his favorite pillow!

Because of Lenny's enthusiasm for outside adventures, love of car rides and walking, care must be taken around opening doors as he thinks that means HE's going someplace. He has been learning 'wait' but it is still a work in progress.

Lenny is a little cuddler that loves hard and kisses often, but it may take a brief time to see that in him, so patience will be important. As a young boy he still has much to learn, like what is not appropriate to chew, including soft puppy love nibbling on his favorite humans, so kids should be 6years or older.

If you would like to meet Lenny and love him forever, please send an email to adoptions@suncoastanimalleague.org
