Leona's Story

Meet Leona!
Leona is a 1.5-year-old, 53 lb collie/shepherd mix with your classic shepherd traits—smart, loyal, affectionate, and deeply devoted to her people. She is a total lovebug who lives for belly rubs, affection from her people, and will happily snuggle up beside you (or gently nudge your hand when she’s hoping for a few extra head scratches).

Leona enjoys going for walks and would thrive in a home that keeps her active and engaged. She is a bright girl who enjoys puzzles, enrichment activities, and playing with stuffies. She can occasionally be startled by things like loud cars, so she would benefit from a patient adopter who can continue helping her build confidence at her own pace. She definitely feeds off her handler’s energy so a confident adopter who can help guide her and set the tone will help her succeed.

She also LOVES playing with other dogs! Leona can be enthusiastic, forward, and physical in her play style, so she would do best with a canine playmate who is comfortable with some rough-and-tumble fun and is ok setting boundaries. She demonstrates good play manners when matched with the right dog and has even played successfully with her foster sister, who can be a bit feisty and temperamental.

Leona is both house trained and crate trained. In fact, she often chooses to put herself to bed in her crate and clearly sees it as a comfortable, safe space. She is still working on polite greetings and may jump up when she gets excited, but she is easily redirected and continues to make progress.

More than anything, Leona is a sweet, affectionate girl who bonds deeply with her people. She would make a wonderful companion for someone with an active lifestyle looking for a loyal best friend who is equal parts playful, smart, and loving!

Leona is UTD on vaccinations, microchipped, and spayed. Her adoption fee is $550.
