LEONA's Story

LEONA was found as a stray in horribly neglected condition, missing much of her fur, and brought to the LA City shelter beginning of November. She has been estimated to be between 3-5 years old, weighs 49 lbs., and was previously spayed.

ADR.org WA saved her life and since then, the rescue has provided extensive vetting with bloodwork, microchipping, and vaccinations.

LEONA is a very lovely, shy girl that likes keeping to herself, but is socially tolerant, takes corrections without a problem, and has a gentle and dainty playstyle. She greets people she trusts with a tail wag.

LEONA has a YouTube video in the posting (made by the trainer of the boarding facility she was after vet stay and before coming to WA) that shows her in the play yard with other dogs and, she can be seen happily running around in video.

She was described by this trainer as:

“Overall calm temperament, Sweet, gentle, and shy girl. Also:
• Dog-friendly with both large and small dogs
• Good with people, shy at first and benefits from slow introductions
• Does not engage much in play; prefers to keep to herself and sniff
• Comfortable with touch and handling
• Nervous around loud noises
• Does great on leash, still pulls into different directions at times
• Handles small or enclosed spaces well (crate-trained)
• Once comfortable, very affectionate
• Enjoys jumping into arms, cuddling, and receiving pets”

Additionally, after thorough Vet exam, and tests, LEONA was found to have dry eye issues and a condition called Keratoconjunctivitis, which is inadequate tear production, causing redness, and pain if untreated.
Therefore, LEONA will need eye ointments or drops administered daily and continuously.

For the time being, LEONA is part of the rescue Founder’s “gang” on Orcas Island (OI), WA.

If you think LEONA would be a good friend and pet for you, please reach out via email to: ADR@animaldefenserescue.org to receive an application.
Without you filling out and returning your application to me, ADR.org cannot consider you.

Furthermore, you need to be willing to come to Orcas Island, WA Island, WA so that a meet and greet (with possible then same day adoption) can happen - and the rescue founder can meet you in real.

Prior to meet and greet and the screening call you will receive more photos and videos (in the postings I can only use limited # of “visuals).

Once the application has been returned, and prior to your coming we will have a phone call in which you can ask all the questions you might have and I (owner of ADR.org) will get to know you better and feel more comfortable as well that you might be the right person for dear LEONA.
She so deserves a stable, knowledgeable, and caring home that is fully committed and you can offer the home she truly deserves and will thrive in.

ADR.org is more than happy to help with ferry reservations, and accommodation here on OI (if necessary).

LEONA looks forward to hearing from you!
