Leo's Story

This is Leo. He is Twelve years old. He appears to be a Pekingese mix. Right now he weighs 21 pounds, but the vet thinks that’s a tad chunky.

Leo has been to the vet and got a clean bill of health, except he is blind. In his foster home he has proven he is so smart and REALLY knows his name ---and can find you anywhere if you call him. And he will come when you call as fast as his little, senior legs can carry him. He has already learned all the little steps (can’t do big ones) and corners and can navigate his foster house very well. He memorizes his surroundings as a way to get around. He is housebroken. He even lets you know if he has to go out. With regular bathroom breaks, he will do all his business outside. He does appear to have a sensitive tummy with some foods. Besides that, he is a cuddler who LOVES to have you petting him, sitting with him, snuggling him. He lets you pick him up; although a few times, his foster mom could tell he would prefer not to be picked up. But that’s the only way to get him up on the couch. He hasn’t slept in the bed because of fear he will fall off due to his blindness, but he probably could figure this out too. Overnight, he sleeps in doggie playpen area. And he snuggles right up in his bed and is a very good boy. He smiles and wags his tail. He has been groomed and is very fluffy and cute. The groomer said she talked to him the whole time and since she kept soothing him and saying his name, he was very good for her. His foster mom has a fenced in yard and he has already figured it all out and will spend time outside smelling and investigating, sometimes just sunning himself. He especially loves to roam around the yard when his foster dog brother is out there with him. Sometimes he gets a little far away and if you call his name, he comes trotting over --so happy to see you, tail wagging, big smile.

Leo is in need of a home as his owner of the last ten years has gone into hospice. No one in the family was able to step up for him, so he finds himself starting all over. Leo’s foster mom think the main requirements would be someone who doesn’t care if he’s blind and a senior. If you think you are Leo’s person or family, please fill out an application. He’s a special little guy who has lost his dad and home and needs a fresh start with lots of love and kindness.
---------------------------------------
Apply to adopt here:
https://puppymillrescueteam.org/dog-adoption-application/

This dog is located in Rochester NY.
