Leo's Story
Meet Leo - A Gentle Giant Learning to Trust Again

Leo is a 134-pound Mastiff who came to us as a stray, carrying both his massive size and the weight of a difficult past. It's clear from his body language and sensitivities that Leo has experienced hardship before finding his way to us, and because of that, he's still learning that the world-and the people in it-can be kind.

Leo has what we lovingly call a few "no-no spots," areas on his body that have become sensitive over time and are best avoided. Respecting his boundaries is essential, and when that respect is given, Leo responds with quiet trust and deep loyalty. Once you earn his confidence, he is steadfast and devoted-this is a dog who will never turn on someone he trusts.

Despite his size and his record-breaking drool (truly impressive), Leo's nature is gentle and sweet. He's not looking for chaos or constant activity-he's looking for safety, consistency, and someone who understands that healing takes time. He would thrive in a calm, adult-only home with an experienced large-breed handler who can read his cues, honor his limits, and continue helping him rediscover joy at his own pace.

Leo may not be the right fit for every home-but for the right person, he has the potential to be an incredibly meaningful companion. If you believe in giving dogs the space and patience they deserve, Leo may just be waiting for you.

If you would like to meet Leo, please submit an application for him on our website https://www.friendsofmichigan.org/adoptable-dogs. He is neutered, up to date on all age appropriate vaccines, heartworm negative, microchipped, and on monthly flea, tick, and heartworm prevention. His adoption fee is $250, which helps cover the cost of the medical care he has received.

**Please note that the breed listed for each of our dogs is a rough estimate unless DNA results are provided in their Bio. All strays have rough estimates of their age based on the condition of their teeth. Each dog is different, so each adoption is different. Our adoption process might require multiple visits to the shelter before our dogs can go home. Or they may be ready on the first visit. It really depends on the individual dog and the potential adopters. Once we receive your application, the Dog Staff will contact you to discuss meeting our dogs.
