Leo's Story

Apply to Adopt Me!

This handsome fellow is Leo. He weighs 8.5 pounds and is about 8-9 years old. We think he is mostly Chihuahua, although he could have a little Feist mixed in. Leo is a very shy boy when first meeting new people, but once he gets to know you he has a big personality.

Until recently, Leo lived his entire life with the same family. Then due to a change in circumstances, they could no longer keep him. For this reason, Leo is slow to warm up to new people and may show fear in new situations or with new people. It is important that Leo’s forever family is patient and gives him time to adjust. Leo is crate trained and his crate is his safe space.

Initially he watches you from his crate, then as he becomes more comfortable, he will follow you everywhere. Later he will be content to watch you from his dog bed or snooze near you. He LOVES going on walks. He often walks beside you, doesn’t pull on the leash, and stops when you stop. Leo is an ideal walking companion, except when it’s windy. Leo does not like the wind.

Leo is house trained and he doesn’t chew or get into things. He sees himself as a watchdog and will bark to alert you about any noises outside. He loves playing tug with his people. His favorite toy is a llama. He is not especially food motivated but he is always ready for his dog cookies! Leo slept in bed with his people in his prior home and we would like this for Leo in his forever home. Leo gets along great with his foster siblings — all of whom are smaller and older — and seems interested in playing even though they are not. He was an only dog in his prior home but he might enjoy a playmate of similar age and size. Leo ignores the cats he sees on his walks, however we don’t know how he is around indoor cats.

Leo is a sweet boy who needs a patient, all-adult family with a calmer household. If you live in the Central Florida/Orlando area and think you have the perfect forever home for him, we’d like to find out more about you. Please complete our adoption application and we’ll see if you’re Leo’s perfect match.
