Leo's Story

AN INQUIRY FROM PETFINDER IS NOT AN APPLICATION! READ THE ENTIRE POST FOR INFORMATION HOW TO APPLY.

Meet Leo! Leo is a 1 year old male maltese mix and he weighs about 8 pounds. Leo arrived in rescue after coming from a puppy mill in a rural area during winter. He has settled into foster care nicely and has been loving learning how to "dog". His foster mom says: Leo is very nervous around people, but he settled in quickly at his foster home. Once he has warmed up to someone, he wants to be right by them on the couch or in the bed. He dislikes being confined and fusses and barks in a crate or pen, but when he’s home alone and has the run of the house, he just snoozes on the couch until the people come back. Leo has joyful puppy energy! He regularly gets the zoomies, and he lives for going on (fast!) walks. He’s fanatical about toys and great at entertaining himself, but he’s still learning what is okay to chew on. He uses potty pads, and we’re working on transitioning that to the outdoors with lots of walks. He’ll go out as often as you offer. His love of exploring means he’s ready to run every time a door is opened, and any yard must be secure. Unfortunately, he isn’t a good road trip buddy: he gets carsick. He’s scared of big dogs but likes calm small dogs and might enjoy a friend—but he does love being the one and only. Because he is skittish, and also a bit wild and mouthy when playing, he is most suited to a home with only older children. Leo is usually quiet but sometimes barks when he hears unfamiliar noises or gets excited. He has done well in a quiet apartment building, but not as well in a home with a ground-floor window where he could see (and comment on) everything that was happening outside. Leo would thrive in a patient home where he can explore the world at his own pace and continue to build his confidence.

Leo is neutered, up to date on vaccines, heartworm negative, microchipped and has had his teeth cleaned!

Leo is fostered in the Orlando area and his adoption donation is $475. If you are interested in applying to adopt Leo, please visit www.floridalittledogrescue.com to read the adoption process and complete an application! Please note that emails simply asking "Is this dog available" will not be returned, as applications are worked in the order received and availability largely depends on when you apply:) Please also know we do not adopt out of state! Thank you!
