Leo's Story

Meet Leo!! (case #11159)

From our constellation-themed litter of seven, Leo is living up to his name — bold, bright, and impossible to ignore. This 8-week-old pup arrived at the shelter alongside his mother (a small-sized Malinois mix) and his siblings, and he’s been turning heads ever since with his intelligence and charm.

Leo is an exceptionally bright and socially confident puppy who already shows an impressive ability to focus and learn. For such a young pup, he’s picked up basic commands like “sit” in just a few short sessions — proof that he’s not only smart, but eager to engage. He’s highly motivated by both food and toys, which makes him an ideal candidate for ongoing training, obedience classes, or even future dog sports.

Personality-wise, Leo is the total package: playful, affectionate, and people-oriented. He actively seeks out human interaction and shows a gregarious, stable temperament during play and handling. He’s the kind of puppy who wants to be involved in everything and will happily bond with his people through both activity and downtime.

With his Malinois mix background—and possible American Bully or Boxer influence—Leo is expected to grow into a medium-to-large, energetic, and driven adult dog. His intelligence and engagement are huge assets, but they also mean he’ll need the right environment to truly thrive. Leo will require:

Daily physical exercise beyond just casual walks
Consistent mental enrichment (training sessions, puzzle toys, games)
Structured outlets for his energy to keep him focused and fulfilled
Ongoing training with clear expectations and positive reinforcement

Like any young puppy, Leo will also need guidance as he grows:
House training and crate training will take time and consistency
Teething means chewing—appropriate outlets are a must
Puppy manners (like jumping and nipping) will need to be taught early
Continued socialization is essential to help him develop into a well-rounded adult

Leo would do best with an active, committed home that understands the needs of intelligent, high-energy breeds. Whether you’re experienced or ready to learn, his future family should be prepared to invest time in training, structure, and enrichment—this is not a low-effort puppy, but the rewards are well worth it.

In return, Leo offers a loyal, engaging, and fun-loving companion who’s ready to learn, play, and grow right alongside you. If you’re looking for a smart, confident pup with tons of potential and personality, Leo might just be your perfect match. Please complete an adoption application:

https://www.hamilton.ca/home-neighbourhood/animals-pets/adopt-or-foster-pet/adoptions

Leo is too young to have certain procedures done, including a neuter. His adopters must be willing to return him for this surgery, which is included in the adoption fee.

Animal adoptions and viewing are by appointment only. This allows our Adoption Staff to spend quality time with each potential home to ensure the most successful matches are made between the animals and their new families.

*Please note: we only adopt within Ontario
