We are astounded that she's still waiting for her forever home, as she is a true gem! We met Layla at Petco and were charmed to see her interactions with the apple of her eye (and vice-versa), Baxter. She behaved nicely on a lead and everybody loved this big sweet puppy. Read on to see what we mean! Layla's Foster Mom Says: Layla was only 9 months old when she came into foster in April. She came from a pet store and it was clearly a case where her family must have bought her on impulse and then simply quit caring properly for her, as we were appalled to discover signs of malnutrition ranging from emaciation to a coat which was coarse, sunburned, and actually falling out in places! After four hours of brushing her, we had removed most of that old dead fur and she is starting to grow in a much nicer, healthier coat. By the time cooler weather comes back around, there is no doubt she will be absolutely glorious to behold! Layla is that rarest of Malamutes -- she is CAT FRIENDLY! We don't have kids, but we have met children when we are out and about and found her to be very gentle and loving with little ones. She is doing great on her housebreaking and crate-trainin --- her puppy brain is like a little sponge! Layla has just been spayed, but so far we are seeing pretty typical Malamute from her in that she doesn't have much use for other females but likes the boys! In fact, she is in love with her foster brother, Baxter, and she also adores her younger foster brother, 4 month old puppy, Chase. We are recommending she be adopted either alone, or with Baxter (we'd LOVE that!) or with a younger male puppy so she can be boss. Layla LOVES people. She will happily spend the whole day with you, on her back begging for belly rubs. She also loves car rides and walks, and is working on her leash manners. In addition, she has good manners in the house -- she is housebroken and completely crate trained. If you’re looking for a girl who has everything to offer Layla is your pup! If you know how much it costs to give a new dog responsible vet care, you can easily see that this is quite a bargain! This dog has had a complete health exam, has already been altered (spayed or neutered), is microchipped, has tested negative for heartworm, has been kept on heartworm and flea preventative, is fully vaccinated and free of parasites.
