Layla's Story

Introducing: LAYLA BEAR!!!

She’s what we think of as a Shih Tzu/Terrier mixed with pure joy! She’s 9 years of age and a solid 21 pounds. She’s in fabulous health, filled with excitement, loves walks, drives, playing with toys, and is curious and explorative. She’s incredibly loving, happy, energetic, strong & fast, open to new things, and doesn’t say “no” to anything edible. She’s not a shedder, is house-trained, leash-trained, a quick learner, attentive, and adheres to discipline and tones of words and energy. She’s an indoor dog, but absolutely loves to explore outdoors. Plus, she has some hops. If Layla was in the Olympics, she’d win the high jump event hands down. So, a secure large wall/fence and yard are a must. As active as Layla can be, she’s also chilled out, calm, and cuddly. She has shown us time and again that “loyalty” is her specialty. She wouldn’t want to be anywhere else in the world than with her human… and will gladly stick everything out in this lifetime with you.

Layla is so sweet and easy going with the ones she’s closest to and trusts the most. Yet, she isn’t the type of dog that will be "people and pet-friendly" everywhere you go. Layla is very selective. She’s either going to like you… or not. And if it’s her type of vibe, she’ll eventually warm up. If it’s not, she’ll show it instantly. She can initially also go berserk at strangers, neighbors, and delivery drivers – is a great barker and protector – and she doesn't hesitate to voice her opinions at bikers, joggers, or other dogs who pass by when on walks. But she’s a Terrier, and their instincts aren’t to like everyone. She also lets it go right away and gets on with other things more important. She’s not fond of confined spaces, locked crates, crowds, or separated by barriers either… But who is??? And although Layla has gotten along well with an array of different types, ages, and sizes of animals in the past year, she can be a bit unpredictable when it comes time to ambush. Therefore, she must be an only pet, or with friendly furry siblings that are at least 45 pounds. No small children either.

Many times, dogs like Layla, are misunderstood. When really, these are special soul pets who just have boundaries. Sometimes a dog’s “highest light” isn’t being universally friendly right off the bat. Sometimes it’s about (1) having a small, controlled world… (2) clear boundaries… (3) predictable regular routines… (4) a protection from triggers, not exposure to them… (5) a single-dog home (or pets a bit bigger in size)… (6) low-traffic environment… (7) and an experienced adopter who lets her be herself to the fullest. Therefore, we are looking for someone who is looking for a lifelong soulmate!!! Layla is not for convenience, nor to keep another pet company while you work all day. She is a beating heart who is open and ready to be a priority. This little girl is filled with so much zest for life. She’s unique in so many ways, as well as having a few behavioral traits. We’d like to match her with somebody who is very similar in nature and character.

There's no guarantee how any doggy will react in a new setting. Sudden change takes time to get used to, especially coming in as a foster and already attached to a home. But we have plenty of photos, videos, and testimonials to show what she’s capable of, and how positively impactful a loving environment is. If interested, please contact: fureversoulmates@yahoo.com directly. Thank you, kindly.

*** Layla is a courtesy listing and does not belong to MMSDR.
