LayLay's Story
POV: Youre a doodle girlie getting ready for your forever family... and the glow-up is LOADING!

Meet LayLay, a 2-year-old standard-size doodle who is currently in the before stage of what we already know is going to be a pretty incredible transformation.

LayLay came to us extremely matted and quite thin. She currently weighs 34 lbs, but will continue to fill out more. Luckily, this girl LOVES food and is very treat motivated, so we have a feeling her healthy weight glow-up won't take long!

And can we talk about that HAIR?! Some of LayLays pictures show her with her long, wavy doodle coat so you can get a peek at what her longer hair looks like. She does appear to shed a little, although its hard to know how much is true shedding versus hair that was damaged, pulled out or lost from being so severely matted. After getting all that painful, heavy hair shaved away, LayLay clearly feels much better. (Special thanks to Groomed in Marion, IA for the much needed haircut! You can't even believe the number of uncomfortable mats she had.) Her beautiful doodle coat will grow back, and we cant wait to see the transformation! (Although she looks adorable with short hair too!)

Current look: Freshly shaved, comfy and SO much happier
Favorite accessory: Treats. Obviously. And ponytails. Obviously.
Personality: Sweet, friendly and VERY people-oriented. Would be good with kids of about any age we think, but currently only lives with teens
Dog compatibility: Dog friendly with every dog she has met, although she loves people more
Cats: Calm and friendly demeanor when they walk by her kennel or sniff her. The cats in her foster home generally avoid dogs though so she hasnt spent tons of time with them
Home life: Comfortable and well socialized, she was a family dog at one time.
Kennel: Kennel trained and quiet all night AND through full workdays
House manners: Has never had an accident in her foster home
Leash skills: Walks well on leash
Signature move: Jumping up to give you hugs!

LayLay is basically a Velcro doodle. If youre moving around the house, she wants to follow and know what youre doing. If you sit down, she wants to be right there beside you.

Shes also discovering the exciting world of DOG PLAY! Shes still figuring out exactly what shes supposed to do with that other dog in her foster home, but she is very willing to participate. She hasnt quite mastered tug-of-war or fetch yet—instead, she sometimes barks excitedly at her playmate, apparently just thrilled to be invited to the party. . She would also be fine as an only dog too, if you wanted to spoil just her.

Shell need someone willing to help her learn some basic puppy manners and how to play, but overall she is doing AMAZING. For a dog who was surrendered in such condition, she is remarkably friendly, social and comfortable in a home.

And this is only the beginning. Now she just needs her forever family to be there for the "after".

Ready to help LayLay finish her transformation?
Apply to adopt at adoptapal.org/adopt

Adoption fee is $550 and includes spay, microchip, vaccinations, and even a month of pet insurance.
