Lasso-Read Bio Carefully!

Well loved Lasso has grown anxious around his two-legged crawling sibling. He needs a home with no very young children.<br/>Vet Info: Lasso is a very well taken care of Bouvier. He is up to date with his vaccination, neutered and HW-. He is microchipped. At eight months he was diagnosed with Progressive Retinal Atrophy (PRA) and will eventually develop cataracts. His vision is declining, he can see some in daylight but is completely blind in low light and darkness. He is prone to ear infections - especially after swimming.<br/>Dog Info: Lasso is an indoor dog with the run of the house. He is very much loved by his owners but since their baby has started crawling Lasso has become anxious around the baby. Lasso has had obedience training and once he started losing his eyesight he went again for E Collar training to help with recall and obedience off leash. He is very well trained with the collar on and will do well with an owner that is experienced with obedience. Lasso is good with men, women and teenagers. He would probably do well with respectful younger children, above the toddler stage. He does well with the owner's parents male dog that he knew prior to going blind. <br/>Lasso's trainer states, "Lasso has done well in play/social situations with a broad range of dogs, over multiple years of visits. As with most working breeds, he does tend to do best with dogs that aren't super pushy and/or dominant. That said, we've never had an incident where he crossed a line with another dog. I will note that we've managed resources (toys, food, treats) carefully,, as that can be a trigger, in particular with dogs that aren't from the same home. We have also shifted to only having him in "play groups" with truly neutral dogs, since he lost his sight. Understandably, a dog that can't see pals approaching could react in a defensive manner when startled."<br/>He is food possessive. When he stays with the other dog, he needs to be shown which food is his so that there aren't problems. Once he is shown, he does fine. He also showed aggression to the same dog when the toddler dropped food from the table. He also showed teeth and nipped the baby (surface level) when the baby surprised him by touching him when Lasso didn't know the baby was there. He does better when he knows the baby is around. This was the result of his loss of vision. <br/>Lasso loves to play with his bright orange Chuckit! balls, which he can still somewhat see in daylight. He is also learning to listen for the bounce so that he can still play fetch. Lasso adapts to new environments. Showing him the perimeter and giving him a strong routine helps him adjust. He also likes to play with the ball in the pool. He also loves to cuddle and when the house is quiet, do his impression of a bearskin rug! Lasso's family is devastated that they have had to make the decision to rehome him but know that he deserves to have the best life that he can.
