Lake's Story

Hi everyone! I’m Lake, a young, three-year-old, tall drink of Labradoodle water, DNA confirmed! I came in off the streets of Kern County, and no one came to claim me, which honestly says more about them than it does about me. Their loss…your gain! Here’s what I’ve learned since arriving at Homeward Bound: I am excellent at being a houseguest. I spent some time with a foster family recently – and I didn’t knock a single thing over, didn’t steal the pound cake cooling on the counter, didn’t beg for the popcorn, didn’t get on the furniture. I slept through the night, hung out while they did yard work, and was just…a really good boy.

I am a big guy, and sometimes my enthusiasm gets ahead of me. I like to jump near the people I love, and I might grab your hand with my mouth when I’m excited. I’m working on it, and “eh eh” totally works on me. I have some polish left to apply, but I’m making progress toward something great. I LOVE treats and pick up new things fast, so training me is genuinely fun.

I am a people dude through and through. I want to be with you, near you, watching you, following you. I love stuffies and will toss them around the house with great flair. I’ll chase a ball and even find it when you tell me to look. I walk nicely on a leash and enjoy a good neighborhood stroll. I do best with calm dogs who have good manners, particularly girl dogs that are playful but mild-mannered. I’m not a fan of those trash talking dogs (and there are quite a few loud mouths here!). Dog parks and off-leash situations aren’t really my scene. I’m a companion dog. Cats are not really my thing either, but sturdy kids who are 7 and up? I think we’d get along great.

I have had a taste of real home life, and now I want it so badly I can practically smell it. And I have a very good nose, so that’s saying something. I am ready to be someone’s devoted, goofy, house-mannered, stuffy-tossing, whipped-cream-from-the-can-loving best friend. The good people at Homeward Bound have done so much for me, but they tell me it’s time. Do you have room for a guy like me?
