Lafayette (adopt or foster-to-adopt)'s Story

LAYFAYETTE has come a LONG way since he started working with our trainers! He can sometimes be unsure/shy about new people and places, but our behavior team are exposing Lafayette to new things so he gains more confidence. He does best with some time and repeated exposures and he absolutely shines when he is with his other doggy friends. He loves playing and exploring on walks. When Lafayette is relaxed, he is wiggly, affectionate, and loves to sit and lean into his humans for pets and super sweet close contact. He will remind you of a goofy puppy with many of his interactions. Lafayette has stellar come and sit commands, which we practice all the time!

He enjoys his long walks in the quiet country roads, lays down in the grass to relax next to you for a break, and will also run and play with toys in our yards. He has showed us his pure joy and love of having a canine friend and he could live with another goofy, social dog. We are are actively seeking an experienced adult only foster or foster to adopt family to let him have a the time he needs to blossom into the Lafayette WE know and love without the daily struggles of confinement. He loves comfort, structure, and affection so we are confident he would do wonderful in a foster home.

We will provide weekly support from our behavior team who can help set up the acclimation into your home and help answer any questions you have that come up along the way and/or set up virtual training sessions if needed. We are super committed to matching Lafayette into a home where his human(s) can enjoy and cherish him as much as we do!

**This dog is part of another wonderful partner rescue in NY, and is adoptable to a larger distance from us than normal - within a few hour distance from Rochester, NY, and between Rochester and NYC area and closer to the NY tri-state area. These dogs will make great additions to the perfect home and the two rescues are working together to help give them the very best shot. Teamwork at its best!**

Adoption fee INCLUDES: all vetting to age (including deworming, flea & tick etc), spay/neuter and microchip (if the dog is under 6 months, alter and chip will occur after they're 6 months, covered in full at our clinic or reimbursed partially at a vet of your choosing). If the dog is older than 6 months and not yet altered, we will schedule ASAP (normally within 30 days) at our clinic . We also provide as an incentive a $60 rebate for completion of positive-based training classes. Adoption also includes lifetime support of the rescue.

Please fill out an APPLICATION here for consideration: www.tinyurl.com/appshdr (copy and paste link into browser window if link is not active in your browser).

We do most application processing virtually and dog meets will be individually by appointment with ONLY APPROVED APPLICANTS. We are not a shelter and are completely volunteer foster-based, so there is no central place to come see all of the dogs available.

IMPORTANT NOTES: ** Housetraining with rescues is sometimes a work in progress and even if a dog is 100% in a foster's home, it should be expected there will be an adjustment period as a dog adapts to a new environment. This is even more true if the dog has not by chance had their altering appointment at time of adoption. ** Also, we highly recommend some form of 2-week shutdown and decompression for dogs going to a new home for best results. --> Lastly, breed guesses in rescue are just that (GUESSES!!) 99.9% of the time. We do not do DNA testing and our breed guesses are based on appearance and sometimes other traits, but we know the dog breed guessing game is a fool's errand even for those with LOTS of experience.

PLEASE NOTE: If a dog is listed as Adoptable, he or she is still available at that time. Also, our adoption area is within a several hour radius of us in Rochester, NY (Canada within 3 hours IS allowed, except that young puppies need to be old enough to have gotten their rabies vaccination to cross the border - usually around 16 weeks)
