Kylie's Story
Hi, my name is Kylie! I'm a PURPLE pawprint, which means I will fit well into a home that meets some specific criteria. Here is what would work best for me in my new home:

-Personality: Sensitive/shy but very sweet! An energetic puppy who is still learning.
-Can Live with Kids: No, Kylie will need an adult-only home. She is under-socialized and very nervous - she should not be around children at this time.
-Can Live with Cats: Unknown history with cats - unsure how she will react. If she is to live with a cat, introductions should be slow and structured to ensure everyone gets along.
-Can Live with Dogs: Yes, pending an initial introduction done here at WHS
-Can do Apartment Living: No, Kylie is going to be a large breed dog who will need plenty of space. A home with a yard is preferred.
-Potty Trained: Working on it!
-Bite History: Yes, ask staff for more details.
-Positive Reward Based Obedience Classes Required: Yes, a 6 week puppy course
-Energy Level: High
-Needs Medical Procedure Before Going Home: Yes, a spay
-Additional Information:
Kylie is a super sweet puppy who was basically left to her own devices before being surrendered to the shelter. She was found running amuck with another dog (likely her mom) and ended up biting an animal control officer in the process (oops!). Luckily he doesn't harbor any hard feelings. We have not seen any sort of aggressive behavior from Kylie while she's been in our care. We think she was heavily influenced by the behavior of the other dog (pack mentality) and also very scared. Kylie is still a puppy who is in need of all her basic training. She will need to be adopted by someone who has the time and experience necessary to get her all trained up and properly socialized! Due to her bite history and timid nature, we are requiring Kylie's adopter(s) be DOG-EXPERIENCED. She is going to benefit greatly from a predictable routine, consistent positive reinforcement training, and responsible socialization. Kylie is a super duper affectionate pup - we call her a "Velcro dog" - who is going to bond strongly to her person. She would do best in a home where someone is present often and/or wants to bring her along on all their adventures (once she's all trained up, that is!).

If you are interested in adopting, please fill out an application on our website (www.whatcomhumane.org/adopt) or in person at our facility. We recommend calling into the shelter after your application has been submitted so our front desk can give you next steps on our adoption process.
